I recently had a remote start installed from CC in my wife's 2006 4Runner.  It is a Python 1400Xp with the 556u bypass module.  The remote start seems to work fine, but we do have an issue when we do not remote start the vehicle.  When we turn the key to start the vehicle, it cranks for a long time and never starts.  We then have to lock and unlock the vehicle with the factory remote and it starts up fine.   Any idea what it could be?  I took it to CC once already and they had no idea, so I am going to have another tech look at it, but any feedback would be appreciated.

The only thing i can think of is that maybe the car is seeing two keys. If for some reason the 556U is on when you start it it will just crank with no start. You unlocking it may be turning it off, which would mean they wired something incorrectly. It is important to connect the keysense wire on the 4Runner to disarm the factory alarm too. You could confirm this by watching the factory theft light while it cranks. If it starts flashing it is definately the problem. If it goes out during crank it's something else...

Thanks...I will have CC check that on Thursday when I go back....Any other idea's of what it may be?  Would it make a difference if it was a 555U bypass module?

you have to either diode isolate the status output between the 556u and the keysense wire or use a second status output to seperate them.

it's activating the 556u every time you put the key in and double transponding at the key cylinder.

Thanks. Can you please give me a little more details of what needs to be done, so I can let my installer know. I want to make sure I have all the facts, so I can give it to him, so this can be my last trip back to CC.

If the vehicle is indeed seeing two keys, here's what must be done in a nutshell:

1) first of all make sure that all connections to the status output wire are diode isolated.

2) Cut the keysense wire and place a diode in it with the stripe facing the key cylinder.

3) Connect a relay as follows...
Terminal 30      Status output on RS (blue/white)
Terminal 85      12 volts (in the case of the 4 runner)
Terminal 86      Key cylinder side of keysense wire
Terminal 87a    Blue keysense wire on 556u

4) also connect the status output wire to the ecu side of the keysense wire for factory alarm disarm in the 4 runner. (remember to diode isolate!!!)

The installer should understand this fine

Interesting, but honestly you don't need to go thru a relay or to diode isolate anything when installing a DEI RS in a 4Runner. The Python unit has two statis output wires, one on the unit itself and one on the satelite relay. One can run the 556U and the other the keysense. As for the relay, the statis wire on the Python will easily trigger the GREEN/ YELLOW keysense wire. The GREEN/ YELLOW is just a Ma trigger sending a signal to the ECM, that's all, nor does it need to be diode isolated from the key switch itself.
