Iinstalled a Crimestopper 2011 combo unit with a pkuf2 on an 04 ford freestar about a month ago, today the guy called and said it wouldn't start with the remote or the key,so i went there and found that the starter was fried. The owner wants to blame the remote start and i asked him if it ever over cranked or if the starter got stuck and he said no.he did say that it started all by it-self one day in his driveway?Ijust want to be sure if i am at fault or not.I also remember when i was checking out the alarm that i would have to hold down the unlock button for a long time to turn off the alarm when it was triggered.

No recalls on the starter. If the starter overcraked it would take a long time before the starter would actually burn out. Did you try to manually crank the starter with 12 volts ?

when i crawled under the van and looked at the starter i saw the ground strap going from the selonoid to inside the starter housing was broken off the selonoid stud,it was fried(overheated).I tried holding the cable back on the selonoid stud and crank the van,but stil no start, the starter is fried! If it's just a defective starter then fine, but if it's the remote starts fault i feel obligated to pay for repairs. How do you know for sure?
