I am about to install an Alarm/RS on a 2005 Equinox and just needed some input and tips. couple of questions.

1) Which bypass module is better to use??? PLXR or 556LW???
2) How to bypass factory alarm?
3) How to make a starter kill if possible???
4) How to energize Keysense wire??? just using the orange( ground out when running wire) from rs with a relay or without (is output enough)???

and any other helpful tips. PLease Thank You

1. Whichever you prefer as they both operate the same. I just did one with the 556L, works fine.

2. Factory alarm will only arm and disarm from the factory remote.

3. Starter kill is possible, but you would have to go out to the PCM and grab the starter wire there. This really is not necessary as the vehicle has Passlock and factory anti-grind. There is no starter wire in the ignition harness at the key cylinder.

4. I energized the keysense in the 06 I just did using only the transistorized output from the starter, no relay needed.

100% in agreement with twelvoltz. I'll just add a couple of things:

1. Haven't tried/seen a PLXR. But I've used Audiovox AS-GM4, which is nearly identical to a DEI 555L, and it works fine.

2. Even though you cannot control the factory alarm from your aftermarket remote, don't worry too much, as it automatically disarms itself when the car is started...........if somehow the factory alarm becomes armed, but you don't have the original remote with you, just start the car with the key and it'll disarm.

Also, there's a procedure in the owner's manual to disable the factory alarm entirely.

3. You could do starter kill from inside, by wiring up a relay to prevent the accessory wire from dropping power when the key is moved to "start".

However, this would also prevent the remote start from starting the engine too, so that wouldn't be a good idea. I'm with twelvolz again here----the factory antitheft system is already good. And you already have antigrind too.

4. You don't need a relay for the keysense.

That Viper unit should have two different outputs that make a ground when the remote starter is on..........if I recall, a small blue, and a small blue/black.......one called Ignition 2, and the other called Status.

Be sure to use one for the car's keysense, and the other for the 556L's trigger input.

If you take just one of the Viper's outputs, and connect it to the car's keysense wire, and the 556L, at the same time......without using diodes.......
the 556L is also going to activate every time you start the car with the key, and it'll never be able to "re-learn" automatically as time goes by. It'll work like this for a good while, until eventually you'll get stranded someplace.

I've never used the 556LW, but have installed a ton of the PLXR and they have their issues, but usually work out in the end. Just test it thoroughly first delivering to the customer.

2) How to bypass factory alarm?

Check to see if the alarm arms up with the door open and the switch on the door. Some will, some won't. If it doesn't, get rid of the OEM remotes and don't worry about it. If it does, tell the customer not to lock with the door open, or to make sure to remote start the vehicle before unlocking. Also starting the car with the key will only disarm it if it hasn't tripped. If the alarm is set off it will continue.

3) How to make a starter kill if possible???

Screw it these newer cars are hard enough to remote start, noone is jumping in and hotwiring them..

4) How to energize Keysense wire??? just using the orange( ground out when running wire) from rs with a relay or without (is output enough)???

If you do go with the PLXR, it has a keysense output that you would connect to the keysense wire. If you go with the XK06 PLXR firmware, no keysense output follow the other guys tips.

Don't mount the module on top of the BCM behind the radio. There's a good chance of the internal relays in there will cause your module to false when it deactivates. Actually, don't go near the BCM no need. All your door triggers can be found about midway down the driver door sill where two harnesses go under the seat. Gray/black coming from the front of the vehicle, tan/white (covers the other doors) and ORANGE / black (covers the hatch) coming from the rear of the vehicle. White wire coming from the rear would be your dome supervision wire or all door trigger if you want to go that route.

To disable the OEM alarm:

Turn the ignition to RUN or ACC. Press the panic alarm button on the transmitter slowly four times within five seconds. Within three seconds of doing that:

Press the unlock button on the transmitter once within three seconds. A chime will sound one time to acknowledge that the security system disabled mode has been selected.

If/when you use NowYaKnow's method to disasble the factory alarm, keep the doors closed and your seatbelt fastened.

That way, the door/seatbelt chimes won't confuse you, and you can just pay attention to the programming chimes.
