heres the situation, i have a customer who's daughter keeps stealing the car at night, so he wants a hidden starter kill switch installed in the car (02 malibu)my first thought was using a relay hooked up in conjunction with the brake, but he's convinced she will figure that out. the other factor in this is that he wants this to work in such a fashion that she wont notice him pushing any hidden switch when she is in the passanger seat. my other thought is a pressure activated switch that i found in the mcmaster carr catalog, very pricy switch at $55.00. so im open to any innovative ideas here, besides the obvious of hiding the keys when at night so the kid wont steal them.

How about a simple hidden on/off switch that controls a normal starter kill relay.  At night, before going to bed, he can flip the switch when his daughter isn't looking.  You could even get a key lock to make it more secure, but if he can't keep his keys away from his kid that probably wouldn't help him.

A good book on parenting skills may be an even better solution!   :)

Oh, another idea!

How about wiring the starter to the horn, so whenever the starter is cranking the horn is blaring.  A small inconvenience for the piece of mind that his daughter is going to steal someone else's car instead of his own!

ive done a couple of kill switches in the past and i think i can give you some sugestions like for examlple i did this on a 95 tahoe run a simple on off switch that will cut the fuel pump's 12 v and then you can use a relay for this otherone its simple. when you press a switch for example the window roll up switch it will activate the rellay and then you can start the car if you dont triger that switch the car will not even turn over because your interupting the starterposted_image and when he goes to sleep at night he can just flip the on off switch and even if you find the starter kill it still would  not start. hope that helps

i think we are going with the pressure switch under the carpet. he wants it to be as inconspicuous as possible, otherwise she will catch on to what he's doing when she is sitting next to him. personally i would just beat her posted_image   or just install an alarm and dont keep the transmitter on the keyring, problem solved. but as you know, the customer is always right.

Why not do it through a remote? He hits the button in his pocket and it triggers a relay to kill the starter. Then do an ignition kill, in case the brat figures it out, he can kill the car in motion...

already suggested that. he is hell bent on some sort of hidden switch method. he is making it more difficult than it needs to be.

Well, you can do what is common and hook up a starter kill relay, and have your car start only if you have your turn signal on. (turn signal turn relay on allowing you to start your car)

i got an idea.......tell him to take his daughter to the maury povich show, and they can put her in some kind of bootcamp, where people yell at her, oh, maybe they can lock her up for a day.

Maybe a mag relay underneath a panel or carpet to disable the starter interlock- use a secret decoder ring with a tiny neodymium magnet or embed it in his shoe.posted_image
