I have a GPS tracking unit that came with a 12v DC socket that is to be installed behind the dashboard, out of site.

I have a 2002 Tahoe.

My question is where is the best place to tap into the main power source for the vehicle. I have never done anything like this so I apoligize if my post is a little out of context.

Thanks,
Keith

drop the underdash shroud, 3 7 mills on the bottom, then remove the metal plate surounding hte steering column, 4 10 mills.   tap into the thick orange wire at the ignition harness and ground to metal.

Yikes!

I am new to this stuff.

I tried to install this socket to the orange cable under the dash. And now my car is acting like the battery is dead. It would turnover for a bit, but now it wont even turn over.

Any thoughts?

If you had the door open and the domelight on the whole time your battery probably is dead.
