I just bought a blank(not cut) key for a GM vehicle because the owner does not want to give up a key for the transponder bypass.  However, the new key came with no programing instructions.  Does anyone out there know how to accomplish this.  I haven't checked the car's manual yet.  The vehicle is a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.posted_image

Its been so long since I have done it that I don't remember :(

You should look into getting a transponder bypass that does not use a key. In the long run it will be cheaper and it is hard wired so there is a lot less chance for failure.  Plus it is easier to install and there is no need to program it.

Here ya go

1. Put a programmed key in the ignition.

2. Cycle the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) to OFF.

3. Within 15 seconds, insert the new, properly cut key in the ignition.  Turn the key to (RUN) or START.  The "security" indicator light will go on then off, turn key off.

4. The key is programmed.

If you have it in the bypass module, then do step 1 and 2.  Within 15 seconds use the remote to request a remote start.  The security light will go on then off.  Stop vehicle with remote, or other.  The key in the module should now be programmed.

Als the key needs to be cut to program it to the computer.  You should be able to use an immobilizer deveat that doesn't require a key

Thanks guys.  Now, do I need to program all three keys at the same time:  2 original keys and one new key?  I will be using the standard bypass module for the new key.posted_image
