Subject: 04 durango remote start

I installed a bulldog remote starter (model rs1100i) in my wifes 2004 Dodge Durango and I pressed the button for it to start before I moved on to hooking up the parking lights and door locks to it, just to make sure it would start and it doesn't. O.K., so here is some information, I printed the wire diagram off of the bulldog website and before I got started I wrote to them to ask if I would need a bypass module for the truck being as it came with the black key with the buttons built in. They told me no you only need it for the gray key. With that out of the way I went an wired some relays up and soldered resistors in line so that I would have everything I need to work on it from start to finish without needing to stop. So anyway I did that and than today I left my wife take my truck to work so I could work on hers'. I would like to say before I forget that I installed this unit on my truck which is an 02' Dodge Ram and I had no trouble installing that, although I did need the bypass for my truck, which I found out after I installed it and it would start and than stop a few seconds later and it works great. Anyway once I went to get started I realized that some of the wire colors from the paper I printed off of the bulldog site weren't even in the truck, so thats when I came to this site and was searching for info and I found some wire diagram info and these ones say different colors than the bulldog site. On top of that there was two people that answered the question on this site when someone asked for the diagram and they both are a little different with what they say the color of the wires are. So now I'm really confused and I really would appreciate any help that someone might be able to give me. I can take pictures if you might need them to help me out. I hooked it up as follows the constant power to the RED / orange & RED / blue that is from the info I got from this site but the bulldog says RED / orange but noted that with automatic temp control which I have that there will be an extra RED / brown and a 3rd accessory wire a dark blue. I do not have those wires but yes I do have the auto temp control. Next is ignition which is hooked up to pink/lt. green & pink. That is from this site also. Bulldog says the same with the exception being it says it could be a pink or black wire. Next is accessory which I hooked up to pink / YELLOW & pink / YELLOW(the smaller wire) Which is from this site but this site also said that the wire could be pink/blue for the second wire depending on model but bulldog said pink / YELLOW & pink/purple, with a note to read #1 which says the info I said earlier about the automatic temp control wire colors. Next is starter which is pink/lt. blue. Both your site and bulldog were the same for that one. Than the ground wire. Next is the factory alarm shut down wire(FASD) that wire I didn't hook up at first and than I did to see if it would do something, it didn't. I hooked it up to the key sense wire that is violet/lt. brown, which I got that info from this site. The ignition bypass wire I also tried to hook up to the key sense wire (the wire that you would normally use to hook up the bypass kit with) and nothing happened. The last wire was the brake and both this site and bulldog said the same thing which was WHITE/ tan. I really really tried to be as complete as possible in describing everything. If I left out anything that you might need to help me out please just ask. Could I need a bypass kit even though they told me no and if I do need one would that stop the truck from starting because I mean it did nothing. It didn't even start for a couple of seconds or even try to start. When I pluged the harnesses into the unit it clicked on and off so it is getting power but I have no idea why it isn't starting. If anyone lives around me and wants to give my a hand that would be great also. I live in spring city, PA. Thanks again for any help that you might be able to give me.

I should add that I did say when I plug it in it makes the clicking sound but that is the only time the unit itself makes any noise (clicking) when I press the button on the remote the unit doesn't click at all. Thanks again

DEI's database is what I use, and they are correct more times than not. Bulldog has never been right in my experience. You should always verify all wiring with a DMM PRIOR to hooking anything into the wiring. Here is what DEI lists:

As far as the reference to the gray keys go, that only applies to keys without remotes built in. You probably have a transponder. The easiest way to tell, is once you have your starter hooked up according to the above chart try remote starting, if it does not start, put a key in the ignition in the off position and try again if it starts you have a transponder. If it does not start, recheck your wiring and try again.

Is there anyone on here that I can e-mail some pictures too? I will take pictures of the wires under the dash and maybe someone could help me more that way, because its a 04 dodge durango limited and has everything in it. It has ATC but the extra wires (RED / brown & dk. blue) are not under the dash. Are those wires not with the ignition wires ? I don't know I still need more help. My e-mail is ridnlowtahoe@msn.com Thanks again for any help you can provide.

Do you have a bad connection anywhere? How did you make your connections?  Take it one step at a time & don't panic. Use a DMM & check for voltage @ all your ignition wires. Make sure the plug is securely inserted into the Bulldog unit. Confirm each wire is properly connected, one at a time. If everything seems OK, Maybe you have a bad unit. Can you return it & try another? Do a process of elimination.

The clicking noise is a safty feature you need to ground the hook pin switch wire put the break and hold the start button and the unit should stop ticking at you and start the car also have you tried just turning the key in the on position and clicking the start button and seeing if it starts? let me know if this helps

I was wondering if anyone knows of an easier way to hook up the lock & unlock function, other than the wire in the drivers door being as this truck has memory seats and you have to tap in at the dmmm. If not an easier way, well than how about some tips on getting the wire into the door because it seems impossible.

I dont no about an easier way but there is a how to In the car audio forum on running wires through the door molex that might help.

I assume you are installing a remote start. Use this from bypasskit.com

Can you use a DEI bypass with a bulldog remote start, instead of the 791 bypass from JBS ? Will there be any issuses with compatibility ? Thanks for any help you can offer.

shouldnt be any problem mixing and matching different bypass modules with any brands....

only issues i ever really had was using the 555L for PL I  as it required a - during crank which the DEI units provide but many others dont, you needed to relay and isolate..... other than that, shouldnt have any problems....

Yes this would be the easiest way to do this, A little costly but a big time and headache saver. Let me know if you cannot find one I have the same units from Omega at good prices.

Hi, Wondering why the security light on my wifes 04' Durango Lmtd. blinks after you remote start it , put the key in it , and than drive away. It just keeps on blinking the entire time you drive it nothing else happens it just blinks. It does not blink if you start it with the key and than go or if you remote start it but stop it before you put the key in and than start it with the key normaly. I also hooked up the parking lights with it & door locks. They all work perfect and there is nothing wrong with them. Like I said it is just that the light blinks when you remote start it and than drive away with it from it being remote started. I would just like to know why and how to fix it ? Thanks for any help you can provide me. Ryan

What brand rs and bypass are you using.

What type of bypass did you use...? To disarm the factory security you need to pulse the bypass module, and the 1st, and 2nd ign all at the same time. Everyone here will tell you it can only be done with the factory remote....not true. If your R/S unit has a factory disarm...you can use a relay to get 12 volts for the 2 ign. wires. It's more than likely a NEG(-) pulse, split it, take one to the relays , and the other to the bypass. Use a diode to prevent anything from backing into the bypass module. (isolate the bypass module)

It's just a bulldog R/S with a bulldog bypass unit. Yes the remote starter unit has a fatory disarm wire coming from it also. Could you possibly do a diagram for me? I already know of the other diagram on here for the durango under the topic of "disarm for durango 2004". Is that the same type of diargam that you meant or did you mean something different ? Also in that diagram, what is the wire from the bypass ? I understand the wire from the module which is the factory disarm by why does it go straight across to the bypass module? What would you hook it up to ? One more thing also, What size should the diodes be and where would they be installed along the lines of that diagram, If that diagram is true ? Thank you very much for your help. Ryan

Hi, I wrote a couple days ago about the remote start I installed in my wifes 04' dodge durango lmted. It was working like I said. It would start, stop, lock, & unlock but the thing was that it needed to be remote started and than unlocked because if you just pressed the unlocked button, it would unlock the doors but when you opened the door the alarm would go off. So a gentlemen here said to bypass the alarm so I followed the diagram on here. It said to use two relays. Hook up 30&86 together on both and put a fuse in line, than hook up to 12+, I did that. Next hook up both 87s' to ignition wires 1 and 2 separately (pink/lt. green & Pink) And last to hook up both 85s' to the factory alarm disarm output and the bypass box and hook them all together. Which I wasn't sure which wire to hook up to the other ones so, I tried the yellow wire which didn't work and than I tried the blue which didn't work. I should say that this is a bull dog R/S & 791 bypass module. I also didn't know what value of diodes to use for the two wires that went to the factory disarm wire and the other wire from the bypass so I used 1.5k. Now the truck won't start. So my question is what did I do wrong. When I first hooked up the yellow wire it did start for a second but than died. Now I have the R/S unpluged because when I go to plug it back in it just makes the truck continuously crank and will not stop. I NEED HELP Please. Can anyone help me and tell me what the values should be or if what I used was good enough and also if anyone is familiar with bull dog products, could you tell me which wires I should hook up the 85 pins to from the relays to the R/S unit and the bypass unit. Thank you very much for any help you can provide. Sorry for writing so much and I hope I made sense. If you need anymore info. just ask. Thanks again I really appreciate your help. Ryan

O.K. , So I just went down to my garage and I pulled the 2 fuses on the relays that I hooked up to try and bypass the alarm and than tried to start it and it started right up. I would really appreciate if someone could post a security bypass diagram for me, especially if you could do it for a bulldog R/S unit & bypass!
