remote starter for an 06 silverado?

I would like to install a budget remote starter on my 06 chevy silverado. I have installed a few on hondas in the past. Nothing on a newer car. What brands should I look? What additional parts do I need to to make a starter work on this truck?

Budget ehh? well ya get what ya pay for I'll tell ya that. Just remember to power up the 2nd ign [white wire] and get a GOOD bypass, that does door locks and disarm and everything else GMDLBP from bypasskit.com.. the rest is up to you...

What remote starters are relaible, have good range, and are inexpensive? I was quoted at $350 to install a starter at Best Buy. I was told that newer cars are tricky and require extra parts.

Yours is a really easy install.8-10 wire hookup for the most part. anything from DEI is nice, Astro is great m[good luck finding one over the counter. Bull dog and such are so so... skytek are ok , just do some searching on the net, youl find something decent. but stay away fro the too good t be true deals....

My 2 cents...Avoid anything on eBay with a name you have never heard of. As Hymer has already stated, if it sounds to good to be true, it is. Best Buy sells the Avital branded DEI products (at least in my area anyway). Look into the 4200, separate lock and unlock buttons, good range, very reliable unit. You can pick up the 4100 for less money as well, it is also very nice but lacks the dedicated lock and unlock buttons. Both come with two remotes. For bypass I would use the GMDL-BP too, very nice reliable, easy to install piece, it is equivalent to the 457G from DEI.

Keep in mind that anything you install yourself would probably void the manufacturer's warranty. Ask the retailer if they will warranty the unit if you install it yourself.

thanks boys. where can I find a wiring diagram for my truck? one that shows the locations of  the 8-10 wires that I must splice into.

What does the GMDLBP BYPASS do that the above bypass does not?

So....., I need the bypass to "bypass" the passlock and also control the locks? and that is all I need to make the starter work? Is this correct.

First, eBay links do not work here, they are blocked.

Second, yes any remote start that you purchase will require a bypass module. Your truck's door locks and alarm require a lot of labor to interface with without using a data module. The ones listed in our other posts will do the door lock interfacing and the bypassing of the Passlock II that your truck has. The item you have listed there will do passlock II interface only, the GMDLBP does door lock interfacing, alarm interfacing, and passlock II bypass. The 556L that is in that link requires cutting a wire in the truck to install, the GMDLBP does not. DEI offers the 457G which is the equivalent of bypasskit.com's GMDBL-BP. You could pickup just the 556L or bypasskit's GMBP and just use your factory remotes to control the remote start, but the operating range of an after market system's remote controls are significantly greater than that of your factory system's.

How can you use your fac. remote to control the after market car starter if it did not come from the factory with a starter button?what button would start the truck? so is the GMDBL-BP is a plug and play device? how much splicing/cutting will be involved to get the starter working?

Read all about it, these links will give you every bit of information you need to make your decision.

As far as interfacing with the factory remotes, you would hook a wire onto the lock leg of an actuator, if the system sees a certain number of pulses on this wire it activates/deactivates. Check out the manual for the 4200 it should shed some light on it for you.
