Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2003 Ford Explorer. After poking around a bit, I came accross a 551T module under the dash. It appears to be stand alone. I didn't find any alarm components. I've never done a remote or alarm install, but all the wires seem connected and intact. I did not look under the steering column for the key bypass module yet, but have a few quick questions. Is there a standard factory remote key sequence for activating these? I have no idea which of my 4 buttons (lock, unlock, panic, tailgate) to press to attempt to activate this. The led on the unit does not light, but I'm not sure if that means something is dosconnected or if that is for programming only? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

try hitting each button on the remote 3 times each and see if it starts. if not look for a toggle switch somewhere in the car and f it is off- turn it to on and try the remote again. it should start if it is working properly.

Thanks for the reply. I tried pressing each button 3 times and no go. I did find the toggle switch and it is in the on position. I also opened up the steering column and found the key bypass ( so if nothing else I got a nice factory Ford key out of the deal, uncut of course). Does anyone know if the led functions besides when it's in program mode. Also does anyone how many channels the factory ford keyless entry has (ie.. lock -1, unlock -2, panic -3, tailgate -4 lock and unlock -5 etc.)? I assume I could figure out the remote activation key by looking at the factory keyless entry module. Anyone have any idea where it might be located in my '03 explorer?
Thanks for any help!

it is probably lock or unlock 3x. YOu can find the module and look for a white wire with a blue stripe and trace it to the color wire in the car and report back.
