The viper 791xv is rated at 433mhz while the compustar 2w900fma is rated at 900mhz.

what real world differences should i notice?  they seem to go for about the same price with comparable features.  some people claim they can get 1000' with viper while others complain saying they only get like 150'.

i currently have the viper 791xv, but if the compustar's range is a lot better...i might be worth the switch and sell mine and get the compustar.

Go with the viper....it's such a nice unit and it is a dream to install. Also it is more reliable in my opinion. The viper has great range, just mount the antenna up on the windshield by the headliner.

will be installed in a 07 camry le.

hawn, did you think the range on the compustar is a lot better?  or are they both about the same.  i have the viper now, so i would need to resell the viper and purchase the compustar.  think the effort is worth it?

get the viper 5900, its the same unit as the 791xv only with a mile range, and i've had both the 791xv and the 5900 and i notice a HUGE difference in range with the 5900

Selling a used 791xv with all cut up harnesses is going to be hard. If you do manage to sell it, you won't get much money for it. If you get a 5900 you will just need to swap the brain, antenna and remotes. You will then have a new set of harnesses to put with the 791 which you can then sell.

In most cases the Compustar 2W900FM will get better range than the Viper 791. Both systems can pick up interferance at certain locations which can kill range. I have a 2W900FM in my car. At my work I get about 20 feet of range. I brought my father's truck with a 791 to work with me today and it got over 600 feet. I didn't test it any fiurther than that. I have been in the mall over 800 feet from my car and my 2W900FM has worked. I know a Viper 791 wouldn't work from that range inside a mall. Lots of things can effect range.

In my honest opinion the compustar will be much better don't use the 556uw unless you plan on giving up a key, they make a keyless bypass for that vehicle which has proven very reliable when i have used them. The 900 will get much much better range then any viper product, ease of installation definately the compustar. I have the 5900 installed on our shop van and I get barely any range from it if I try to lock it walking away from the van it tells me i'm out of range. The 900 has exellent range as well as the remote issues have been dealt with, no more reset issues as long as you're buying a new system you have no worries. I've gotten around 5000 feet range flawlessley with the compustar and it does manual transmission vehicles without extra parts. But if anything get the pro series from compustar much better than both. Just my opinion. Best of luck to you

The key to range is pairing up the proper remote control with the right antenna. I've had alot of experience with the Compustar systems and I've had to mix and match remote controls with antennas for customers to get the best range. Some remotes work better with other antennas from a different package for some reason. The new PRO series remote controls generally get about 1.25 miles of range from my experience.
