I am having trouble locating the tach/coil wire on this 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.4L.

There is a link to a picture of the engine. Can someone please describe where to look for this white wire?

2.4 L engine

Thank you!

the tach on that 4 banger is white in color and is located in a 16 pin harness located on the top right side of the engine.  i cant really see it in your photo link.  you can vertify you have the correct wire by using your dmm on 12 volt setting and start the engine it should read between 1 to 6 volts at idle, if you can give the gas a shot while testing this wire you will see the voltage increase and decrease in sync with the engine, verifying you have the right wire, if you are not sure. i hope this helps!!

Don't forget to set the DMM to AC.posted_image

Guaranteed best tach source for 2.4L : CMP Camshaft Position Sensor. It's a BROWN / WHITE in a 3-pin plug.

I've ALWAYS used CMP in GM's and it's BROWN / white 99% of the time. Especially in GM full size trucks - stay away from the white. CMP is great in Sebrings and Intrepids and works wonders in some FORDs which they call the SPOUT, an acronym for SPark OUTput.
