Just installed a DEI 571XP. I had a heck of a time getting the thing to consistantly start and stay running. The problem revolved around the tach wire. I used the GREEN / WHITE tach wire that is bundled with the other blunt ended wires above the fuse box. Turns out that the '07 has a weak tach signal and this thing just did not want to work. I've successfully installed and had no problems on a '01 7.3 and an '03 6.0 using the tach wire, but the '07, NOT!

So I talked to an installer at one of the 2 big retailers, want mention which one, but he said that they had so many problems with the 6.0 diesels that they hated to touch them. They tried to sell me a $64.00 tach generater that I had to mount to the alternator. No way did I take the bait!

I ended up reprogramming the 571XP to NO engine checking and set the crank time to 4 seconds. The 6.0's have a factory anti grind built in and as soon as the engine fires up, the starter motor stops. Now the 571xp works flawlessly and now it starts right up every time. I also set the wait to start time out to 10 seconds instead of the smallest 15 seconds with the bitwriter.

Keep us in the loop if it still starts after a week or two cold spell. Be careful because no engine check means that if it fails to start then the  ignition stays on forever and can drain the battery. I'm not saying it won't work, just a heads-up.

Did you program acc on during wait to start?

Big Dog,

Fewww, I almost read your reply wrong. At first I thought you were referring to the crank time. I have that set to 4 seconds. Yes, I am aware of the ignition problem. I am always very close to the truck when I start it, so I am definitely listening for that thing to start up. Yesturday morning it was 20 deg down here in NC. I know that's nothing compared to what you guys see in Canada, But it was could enouph for my blood! It started fine. These 6.0L's have a lot of idiot proof built into the PCM. Ford has had so many probems with the 6.0L, they had to. I want to think that if you sit there long enough without anything happening, it will probably dissable everything. I know the fuel pump goes off after a few minutes if the engine is not running. I programmed the remote start to dissable the acc during the wait to start time.

I have some to add to this, just did an 07 today, and thanks to a previous failed attempt and some info on the forums i went with the tach generator from DEI. Truck starts like a champ, and the generator was easy to install, just got to make sure it is right next to the alternator. Just happy everything thing works now, because the last one i attempted has been haunting me...haha...hate when i cant figure something out.
