installed in 2001 santafe, since purchased in 2001,no prior issues. the vehicle wont start with remote from outside the vehicle. However,i discovered something...I can start the vehicle with the remote if I sit in the drivers seat  and use the remote at a distance of approx 1ft.Also,I can do this even if the hood is up,something not right here.I am thinking defective antenna,or defective hood switch,or short somewhere.Hitting the break stops the vehicle as per normal. The only dealer in town wont talk to me because they did not install it,nearest city 5hrs drive away.I am handy with a voltmeter. All help appreciated.

Well, for certain, your hood pin is NOT working properly. The rig should NOT start when its open. With your meter, see that the hood pins shoes ground on the wire that connects to the brain. Blk/red P2 pin 3. Also make sure the programming of the hood pin is set to default. (normally closed). Have you replaced the batteries in the transmitter (at least check the voltage with your meter.)

Typically the receivers will either work, or not work....In my years I have never seen, or had, the severe range issue you are having. Double check the connection at the P15 plug.

So...the place that sold you the unit won't offer any help to you as well?  Have you offered the "local" shop some cash for their help?

This is the problem that arises when folks purchase product off the internet, or buy from a dealer that is selling the product "over the counter" and NOT installing it. They will turn their backs on you....just like the local shop did.

My money is on the transmitter batteries. The receiver works!

batteries are fine.unit was installed at time of buying car from hyundai dealership,a dealer but know one can tell me which shop did it as personnel has changed. As for the local shop, they are run off their feet, this is a boom town (fort mcmurray, alberta)it takes a week to get in to see a doctor. Thanks for the info.tho.I will try to test the hood switch and look for something obvious over next couple days.regards,spunkydude.

If you carry any kind of laptop pc that is on or possibly in sleep mode, I KNOW this hinders the reception on astro recivers... My laptop does when its on and my scann tool [windows based] also does...    My money is with Kar Tune Man.. change the batteries, or get a different remote. I havn't ever seen a bad reciver, or a bad remote, unless it's been water damaged and someone is trying to pull a fast one... I would definitly check the connections on the brain, and the antenna to be sure... as for the hood pi, well it's probably not hookd up.. black / red wire on the unit.. hood open should show ground. The local shop is just blowing smoke at you. I have never heard of an Astro dealer NOT looking at a starter , granted I charge if I didn't install it, but they are so easy to troubleshoot...   the charge is minimal, and the customer is really happy...

Hymer, hood pin is hooked up cause i remember tripping it bout a year ago, will double check tho.As for reasoning with the dealer company, they were just a couple of really young kids.I might phone astrostart tho. and let them know whats goin on.I am just gonna have to do what you kind folks already said and check all the connections etc.tks, will post again if i come up with a fix.
