2007 dodge ram only starts after 2nd try

Hey everyone,

Just finished installing astrostart alarm/starter in an '07 Ram. On the first attempt the truck will start and die shortly after, after the 2nd attempt it will start and run normally, any idea's as to why?

common problems are:
-cold weather interfering with bypass (what bypass did you use)
-if you are using volt sense, the crank time could be too low
-combination of both

What did the boys in astro tech have to say about that one? Is it a diesel? I'm very interested in this one, got one to do next Thursday myself.

I have yet to talk with astro. It's gas and I'm thinking it has to do with the voltage its seeing on the first attempt. There is another topic about mux wiring for the '07 dodge here that has the relay's hooked up a little differently than I do, so maybe I'll try that. Oh and I used the IOM Chysler 7 bypass, it controls the door locks fine and seems to monitor the door pins ok, but outa the blue the remote will tell me the doors are open or lights are on when they're not, so I don't know how I feel about it yet.

I have rewired the relay's like described in the other thread on the mux
wire. The truck now starts and run fine. However, the truck is still paging the remote saying the doors are open, when they are closed. The only wires that I ended up hooking up from the IOM were the databus wire and the ignition wire. I had the door sense wire hooked up to the (-) door input of the main brain and had the (+) door input hooked up to 12v
like the manual says, and it was still sending false door signals to the remote so I cut those connections and still no luck. The databus wire is hooked up to a WHITE/ orange wire off the SKEM, the door locks, hazards, horn all work off this wire, so I believe it's the right one. The unit is the astrostart 4204 with the alarm kit and IOM chrys 7 interface. Any
ideas would be much appreciated.

I have never used the new chrysler bypass, but the way I read it is to wire the way you had it.....Hmm. Did you isolate the door pins?

As it turns out, I had the unit set up to monitor the park lights, I had the polarity set for (-). I removed that connection and set the park light/ glow plug back to default and everything worked. Weird truck though. With the horn connected if you remove power to the brain the horn will go off until either the battery goes dead or you cut the connection. I elected not to hook up the horn in case the customer ever runs into problems. The IOM as it turns out for this truck will do your locks, door pins, the horn (minus the car finder feature??!), hazard lights, and transponder bypass. It won't allow you to start this particular truck without the relays though, so all it really does is save you a little work with the locks and door pins.

Here is the post on the relay setup that worked for me.

any 07 that i have done so far doesn't have a starter wire, just the PURPLE / brown mux wire and pink/white ignition so the wiring procedure is different that an 06. Checking to see if your specific truck has the starter wire would be the first step. If it does, its just like the 06. What kind of remote starter are you installing? You will need 1 or 2 relays depending if your brand has an onboard relay. Here is how i do them with AstroStart and the onboard relay:

Relay 1

    * 86: 12V
    * 87: ground through 560 ohm resistor
    * 87a: (-) pulse before through 8.5 kohm resistor
    * 85: (-) Accessory programmable output from RS
    * 30: goes to 87a on the onboard relay on the RS

Onboad Relay

    * 30: to purlple/brown at ignition harness
    * 87a: to 30 at relay mentioned above
    * 87: ground through 180 ohm resistor
    * Onboard relay programmed for starter output

Hope this works out for ya. It has worked well for me so far. Im sure you can figure it out if you dont have the onboard relay, you would just have to wire up 2 relays. Post up with any questions.
