We have never installed an alarm because everyone tells us that its a pain and that its not worth it but, I would like to know if it is really that bad. The problem I have is that I ran into some issues with money and I had to purchase a new car and I am going to install all my audio system equipment back into this new car and I want to put an alarm that I have on the truck. Its a 2000 Ford Explorer and I don't need anyting special just the basic stuff for the unit its a Freedom 500 unit. I know it will be time consuming but I would like to do it myself and save the money since I already have anything and not having to fork out cash. Please let me know any input on this subject because I would like to install it on Sat.

Thanks
Wade

Alarm systems are definitely more involved than audio systems, but I would not consider them difficult. The 2000 Explorer is a very straight forward install with nothing extremely complicated about the vehicle. You can find the wiring information for your car here. This makes the job much easier than trying to find the wires without the assistance of a cheat sheet. Just make sure you verify all wires with a DMM prior to connecting. These charts are to assist in the job and are not always 100% accurate.
