Part of the deal when I bought my Ford Five Hundred was that they would throw in a remote starter, they did and it works great, it is the 200 series ( I believe Thats the number )I have where you can have a couple of options programmed into it, I asked about the rear defroster they said for 50.00 (Canandian) they could do this, I left the car with them, then I got a call saying that the installer normally cuts off the wires for this feature and if I still want this option it would cost me 2 hrs labour and the cost of a new harness.
My question is, Is this normal practice? why would they do this ?
Thanks in advance for any help.......................John

You should not have to pay extra to repair the wires that the installer cut during the original installation. The $50 fee for hooking up the rear defrost to the system is a normal fee for this add on, but you should not have to incur any additional fees for something they did.

all the installer needs to do is extend the wire he cut.....shouldn't need a new harness....and 2 hours to connect a rear defroster wire??  honestly...i can see someone charging you maaayyyybeONE hour if its a really messy install and a very difficult wire to find or something but 2 hours is pretty excessive. usually its a straight charge like the original $50 they quoted you. sounds like they're trying to milk you...posted_image

Thank you for the replies, I dont know why he could'nt join it either, probably cut it so short he can't join anymore. I will be contacting the dealership tomorrow, I am just trying to get my ducks in a row so as I dont go looking like a fool because its a normal proceedure, I am now sure he should not have cut any wires...........................John

Give the idiot at the dealership some extra help. Tell him to find a pink wire behind the defroster assembly switch. It requires a "quick" negative pulse to turn on the defroster, and the indicater light WILL also turn on. Go in armed with some good answers to their rediculous actions....jeeze!
