Is there an easy circuit that allows you to push a button and remove the key keeping the engine running, but as soon as the brake is pressed the car dies?? I do NOT need a remote start just this system. This is in an '04 Ford Explorer.
If you want that to happen then yes you do need a remote start. The DEI and Avox units(most of them) will allow you to use the RS even after the car is started...

Most rs's have an input so you can use a push button under the dash to activate.
It is easier than setting up your own circuit, and you get the added features of the RS.
Yes it is called "pit stop" mode- found on most remote start systems- very handy- doors unlock for you when you want to exit, then you can re-lock them when you get out- then it will time out if you don't return for a long time- well worth the price of the R/S to get all these features............safely

You can use a Turbo Timer (even if your car engine does not have a Turbo) if you dont want to install a alarm.
A turbo timer is a device which keeps the car running for a set amount of time after the key has been removed from the ignition, allowing the engine to be at idle. All the turbo timers come with some type of safety device that is a wire that you need to conect to your brake pedal switch in order that if somebody try to drive the car away without the key on the ignition, as soon as he press the brake pedal the engine will shut down.
Also installing a turbo timer is a piece of cake (around 4 or 5 wires)

I forget to mention that almost every turbo timer has a failsafe wire that goes conected to the switch on the handbrake. So if you released the handbrake while the engine is running on timer, the engine immediately cut.
While it is not essential to have the handbrake connection, it is a good precaution to take. It stops the car from jumping into gear and driving off when there is no-one in the car.
