So here's the deal one of my coworkers wants me to drop a compustar into his 04 maxima.  He says he's got one meant for a manual (hopefully he's not pulling my chain).  Anyway I've heard that some nissans have a wire that goes to ground when the shifter is in neutral.  Anyone got any info on where this wire would be in this car?  Thanks

No need for a "neutral safety" wire....if he's got a unit designed for a manual trans. Test a gray/red NEG(-) above the clutch at the switch.

Got a hold of the unit, it's a 2w900fmr.  So thankfully it is manual "ready".  Guess I'll just test the wiring at the bcm.  I'd prefer to be safe than sorry.  thanks.

The Maxima should have a signal that runs to the ECU, not the BCM.  The ECU is most likely under the passenger dash.  I don't have the wire color, but if you can get a hold of the service manual it would be in there.

I don't understand the need for the neutral safety wire? Someone please explain to me why? If you install a manual safe unit....why do you need this neutral wire?posted_image

Yes I am being paranoid.  Couldn't end up finding it anyway.  Thanks anyway.  Compustars ain't all that bad as far as install goes.  Pretty nice programming options too.
