I would like to know if it is possible to reprogram the factory remote myself. I have lost my set of keys recently and I checked with the Honda dealer and they are charging me 1/2 hour labour to do that on top of the overpriced remote control and the key.

If I'm able to do that on my own, I can avoid going to the dealer for ther service.

Thanks.

You can look around on eBay for a factory service manual for your car.  They're worth around $100 new, but I lucked out and got a good used one for $11 with shipping.  The money you'd save on programming the remote would likely pay for the manual.

if it's a newer Honda,

turn key on, press LOCK, turn key off. Repeat until the doorlocks cycle. Should be around 4 or 5 on/off cycles.

the reason they charge .5 hours is because thats the smallest charge they can make. even if it takes a whole 45 seconds to code the remote.

If it's an older Honda, i think i still have a photocopy from the FSM. Email me if ya need it.
