1993 Olds 88 with resistor in the key. Neutral safety switch was bad and replaced. While checking out vehicle jumped across solenoid to see if it would start will crank and fire but not run. Battery strong but only clicks once on firewall when key turned, does not dim lights. Was told by dealer the system needs to be reset, is this true and how? e-mail ddfenterprises@inbox.com       help!

Others may disagree but in a GM that age, I recommend permanently bypassing the VATS with a resistor soldered into place. The contacts in the key cylinder are known to go bad and are very expensive to replace. Soldering the proper value resistor into place would bypass the VATS permanently. To do this however you would need to familiarize yourself with how the VATS system operates, there are plenty of posts on this forum that cover it in detail as well as a large number of resources on the internet. One such site can be found here, I do not recommend the crimp style connectors shown there, I recommend soldering all connections but the site covers it pretty well.

You must keep in mind though, if you do this the integrity of the factory anti theft system is compromised. Meaning, the car can be hot wired! Please take that into consideration if you decide to permanently bypass the VATS.
