Hello Everyone, I have a strange situation. I have a 91 Caprice with autopage rs 855 installed and within 1 years time, I went through 4 starters. I have a tach signal and all and everything works fine but keep changing starters. It starts up fine but a few months down the line the starter goes. Can anyone figure this out? Thanks in advance. ------------- electronics

I'm assuming you're talking about replacing the OEM engine starter/solenoid 4 times.... If that's the case... when you remote start the car -- the the start overcranking at all? Even for a split second or one whole second? If so, you may need to find a different tach signal so that the brain knows "sooner" that the engine has started appropriately. What are you using now for your tach signal? Injector? ------------- The search function is your friend.

No the white wire at the bottom of the coil. It cranks smooth no overcranking. I switched it to voltage and adjusted the crank time when I know a tach signal is alot better. ------------- electronics

No offense, but both the smallblock and the 4.3 that was available for that car have problematic starters. Where are you getting them from? I would suggest spanding a few extra and getting a quality one, either Delco or a performance starter from your local gearhead shop...

That's what I was thinking about buying a brand new starter instead of the rebuilt. This is not my car but a customer

make sure the connections at the starter are not corroded. A loose connection will make it arc and burn the starter out
