I'm installing a DEI Alarm/Remote Start/ Keyless Entry on a 2006 Camry XLE. I'm using the 1100X bypass module. It's instructions indicate that there should be a violet wire coming directly off of the security light in the dash, but I'm not seeing that. I've removed the dash panel containing the security light, and it only has one wiring harness, of about 20 pins across and 2 rows deep. 
Long story short, the security light is an LED that's hardwired to the circuit board, and the ONLY cables coming from this entire assembly are the ones that connect to the harness plug pictured above. The only thing I can guess is that DEI's instructions are referring to a Camry with the standard climate control (knobs), where this one has the computerized thermostat type. Anyone got ideas? Thanks!

I don't really know why - I know the wiring instructions for the 1100x indicate that it needs to be hooked up. I assumed from reading other posts regarding security lights and bypass modules that it had something to do with turning the factory security light off after a remote start? I must say, I've really got no idea, and if the wire isn't needed, then that would be good to know as well. Thanks!

Turn the car off, and remove the key. The security light should begin to flash slowly.
Test every wire in the plug for a wire that changes state every time the security light comes on.
I'd start by testing each wire for ground, but if that doesn't work, you might have to test each one for positive trigger as well.

All of the tech. info I have access to, says not one thing about the security light? I just don't get it. If the install is done correctly, imobilizer, OEM security integration....you should not have a problem with the security light? Chris, do you have any insight as to WHY this is needed? -------------

I think your hooking it up incorrectly. The Camry is mode 1 wiring which doesn't need a secuity light connection. Re-read the directions and follow only the mode 1 instructions...

I can't say for sure about the security light on Toyotas. The Toyota bypass modules seem so un-fun to install, that I haven't bothered.
But I would imagine that it must be to interrupt the feed the the security light when the remote starter is being used.
I'm sure the bypass module would work without the security light interrupt being connected, but the light will probably stay on, even after you turn on the car's key and drive away.

Would an 06 4runner be in this catagory? Just did one. Factory security WITH, "said" security light. No problems Used an astroflex bypass.

It's only the DEI 1100x that needs to be connected to the security light. Depending on the Toyota(or Lexus) it will wire one of two ways, mode 1 or mode 2. If directions call for mode 2 you need to connect a wire to the light. Mode 1 works just off data. The list of what mode works with what car is unusual, some newer models can use either as well as some older ones. All are listed in the 1100x directions on the DEI website. As Chris stated, they all pretty much suck to install so we tend to use 556UW's on all the Toyotas we do. All the 4runners are mode 2...
