I just had the viper 160xv installed in my '06 dodge ram.(black key, 2 door, 2WD, no power locks, alarm or anything fancy in it)  After 3 trips to Best Buy, they claim to have gotten it right.  It does start remotely, but there are a couple of quirks I'd like to know more about.  Quirk #1:  After remote starting the truck, the parking lights and headlights flash on and off about every second or two.  It will do this until either it times out or I get in the truck, turn the key and step on the brake pedal.  I find it hard to believe that this is the way it should operate.  Quirk #2:  When I get in the truck after it's been started by remote, the radio and heater/AC functions all work fine, but as soon as I put the key in and turn it, all power to the radio and heater/AC stops.  I have to step on the brake pedal for all to resume normally again.  Is this the way it should work?  I really need to know if Best Buy installed this correctly or did they just do enough to make it start and make me think it was done right!

#1 : Sounds like they tapped into your hazard lights. This is not normal regardless. They need to tap into your parking light circuit and they will turn on solid after remote start or will flash if you lock or unlock the door.

#2 : This is not correct either way seeing that the ACC is tied into the 2nd starter wire for this truck. Check to make sure the resistance is correct on the relays.

the 160xv uses parking light flash as a default setting. they flash to let you know that the car has been strarted if you looking from far. you can change it to solid parking lights during remote start by using the programming features pretty easily. it is possible that thye connected to hazards like velocity said, although i know that viper 160xv uses the flash as default. check your manuals, it should be able to be changed

The radio and the heater are controlled by that purple brown wire. I did a Charger for a friend and theirs behaves the same way. I believe it is because once you turn the key forward you are providing a different resistance value on that wire and the vehicle shuts down the radio/accessory due to the incorrect resistance value. Once you put your foot on the brake the RS shuts off, killing that additional resistance value being provided.

And, I too would change the flashing parking lights to solid. Flashing parking lights is how DEI ships all their units, I personally do not like the way it looks, so I change all of mine to solid. Since the headlights are flashing as well, I would have to think they used the negative at the switch with a resistor. Changing this option is something you can easily do yourself. If you grab the installation manual from this site you can find how to change this option on page 32, feature 2-4.

You need to access PIN1 of the parking light relay in the fusebox on the left side of the engine bay .. Run a wire from this pin wire to your parking light output.  The PIN1 wants to see a negative pulse -- so if your viper is putting out a positive, make sure and you switch polarity first.
