Customer states that the aftermarket remotes quit working after he uses the factory remote. The system is a Autopage RS600 with a DEI 457G. Is it possible that the BCM is going to sleep after a while?

Have you had the vehicle in for diagnostics ? Seems weird but try to reprogram the remote controls and see if the problem persists. May also have a dead battery and customer didn't realize this. 9 out of 10 times it's a customer error.

I have done that same set up in that truck. the 457gw is hooked up through the data wire and controls everything, so if the bcm did fall asleep it would wake up with the remotes. but why is the customer still using the factory remotes?

The new RS600 only comes with one remote that does keyless. The other remote only starts the car. I dont know why Autopage decided to save .50 cents buy only giving out one remote with keyless but thats the way it is.
