Well I know these remotes are famous for screwin up but this is rediculous havent had the remote more than 6 months and when I went to start my car today it wouldnt even open, so i opened it with the key and of course my alarm went off then it showed on my remote that my alarm was going off but when I  tried to turn it off via remote nothing. When I press any button on the remote within range of car I get nothing when I press out of range I get a no signal so i am guessing that the remote is recieving but not transmitting..why couldn it be the other way around. Has anyone had any problems like this? DOes it sound like I have to get a new $100 remote?

If it's only 6 months then you should be able to get a warranty remote. Go back to the dealer that you bought this from and get them to replace the remote through warranty.

Yes but for Viper products to be under warranty doesnt it need to be installed by a dealer as well?

if you intsalled thew viper yourself your screwed. cough up a 100 bucks and hope that it was just the remote goofin. To me it sounds like the remote or antenna. But generally you see it the other way around. Transmitting with no 2way. heh wierd man.

try resynching the unit... unplug the antenna for a few minutes and reconnect.....usually that's all that's needed.....

i have sold over 200 LCD Viper/Clifford units and the only remote i ever had to actually replace was one some guy sat on and crunched.....

Sounds like it lost functionality or acting like an unknown transceiver..

Try reprogramming it...

Does the spare 1 way remote work at least?

the 5900 doesnt come with a 1-way remote.... it is FSK...

you don't need to reprogram the remote... there is no reason at all for it to need to be re-programmed... i cant believe the # of people here who recommend that.... i've been a DEI dealer for about 6 years now, have sold literally hundreds upon hundreds of their units and have never had to reprogram a remote for a customer....

resynch a few antennas, yes..... but reprogram the remote, never....

I have been a DEI dealer for two years and have only had to replace one bad SST remote. I have never had to reprogram a remote period. I sell a ton of the SST units and they have been bulletproof as far as performance goes. The best thing to do would be to go back to the dealer that you bought it from and let them diagnose the problem for you. The remote should be covered for the first year and the brain for life.
