this is my first post ever..i registered a long time ago but forgot i was registered...i am a car audio security installer at circuit city in florida..been installing for a few years...here is my question ( i was going to ask my boss but he's really busy workin on his car for an upcoming car show so i didnt wanna bother)

i have a 94 accord lx 4dr..i have the python 460hp alarm in it..it has 2 aux outputs..i wanted to hook up 1 of the outputs to my car's factory horns so i can hold it down to beep at someone and when i let off the button the horns stop..obviously i need a relay...but when looking at the install manual, it says that both outputs throw a (-) negative trigger and my horns are positive...so using a relay..what wire needs to go to what in order for it to work right?

also, it's not the 451M relay, it's the relay that looks like this

So you need to reverse the polarity:

85: negative trigger from your alarm wire

86: 12 volts (fused) +

87a: nothing

87: to Accord horn wire

30: 12 volts fused +

pins 30 and 86 can receive 12v+ from the same wire .. they do not have to be independent power sources. You simply can T-tap into your OEM Accord horn wire .. no need to cut it in half, etc.

Also, you need to make sure your aux (-) outputs are latched negative outputs, not just pulsed negative.  Probably a programming setting in your alarm brain.

would it say it in the manual if it was latched or pulsed?

Yes... it would (in the python manual).

Your wire is the H1/3 wire (WHITE/ blue)

You want the "validity" output .. this allows the wire to send a negative signal (constant) so long as the button is still depressed and transmitting a signal to the brain.

You do NOT want latched (sorry, I was incorrect).

This WHITE/ blue wire is the channel 2 programmable wire.

sounds like a dumb question but how big of a fuse should i put on the 12v source going to the relay?

Since it's just going to supply a + positive charge to the horn wire, a 10 amp fuse should be fine.  The + trigger is just sending a positive charge to the relay under the hood, so it doesn't draw much current.

so i did like i was told...here are the pictures.. the pics are before i soldered (sp?) the wires and i tested it with a blue neon before testing the horn because i didnt wanna bother the neigbors..so everything worked right w/ the neon...i went through the advanced menu in my alarm and got it to turn on when i do the channel 3 output and when i let go, it shuts off..so i wire up everything...tap it to the horn...and then it doesn't work?....right now i have my horns relayed...i have 5 mercedes benz style horns so i relayed them..the horn works fine, but not on the output/aux of the alarm...is the alarm not throwing enough? here are some pics to show what i did...maybe you guys have an idea why it's not working?

WHITE/ blue channel 3 programmable output wire:

relay wires...(2 yellow wires are jumped and going to a fuseholder for the constant 12v+ source, white wire is output going to accord horn, black wire is the input from the negative trigger off the alarm):

fused (10a) going to the 12v source off the alarm 12v wire

here is the relay used...the ORANGE / white wire is the input coming from the stock wires..the pink is the output going back to the horns..black is ground and this relay is fused directly to the battery 12v source with a 30a fuse...i tried tapping both wires and got no results:

fused with a 7.5a just in case something went wrong it didn't fry anything:

Did you meter those wires to the actual horn relay system prior to tapping them with your alarm relay setup?  The horn wire should go from 0 vdc to 12 vdc or something very close to 12 vdc (i.e. 12.3-12.4 vdc).

So .. according to your diagram, when you hit the horn (on the steering wheel) -- what does the ORANGE / white wire do (in terms of the voltmeter measurement)?

What does the pink output wire do during horn activation (via the steering wheel)?

orange white wire is a 12v...pink is going  back out to the factory output wire..everything on the horn works fine, but its just when you do the auxiliary on the alarm, nothing happens..i didnt meter that wire coming from the alarm so ill do that when i get a chance again to work on my car

That wire coming off the alarm may be programmed to do a positive charge -- that's why the neon light was going off .. perhaps you have to program it to reverse the polarity -- otherwise you'll have to use a relay to reverse the polarity.

it is throwing a positive charge...i had to reverse the polarity originally because the alarm throws a negative..i asked my boss and he said i should take the wire coming from the alarm and tag the horn wire at the steering column because it is negative at the steering column..should i do that?

yes .. that's the way to do it -- if the alarm throws a negative charge .. you need to hook it to the negative charged horn wire -- if that's the one in the steering column -- you're good.
