I was wondering how to find the neutral wire so that if the car is in gear it will not start unless the car is in neutral. Do i have to go to the actual shifter. Is there a wire connected to the shifter that will be negative when in neutral. Any help is appreciated,.

Tell us "what" you are installing? Manual transmission safe product.....I hope. Typically this is NOT the way its done. You simply install product that is designed for manual trans, follow the install instructions, AND the reservation mode process....and you have no problems. No nuetral safety wire is even needed. Your door pins, and E-brake do the job for you.

im installing a presitge remote start and there are two wires that if it sees a negative it will start but if it doesn't see a negative it will not start so if i find the neutral wire of the tranny then i can hook that wire up and if the car is in gear it will not start.

I would not trust that way. Be sure to install a remote start that is for a manual trans. They require you to go thru a routine everytime you get out of the car that will insure that the car is in neutral.

Neutral safety switches fail that is why if you follow a dealer recommended maintenance schedule they are checked every 10-15k miles. You really should look at getting a unit that is meant to operate a remote start on a manual vehicle and has a safe start procedure otherwise you are asking for trouble. You don't want the liability of having that one switch fail and having your car go through a wall or worse a person just my 2 cents. --->Richard ------------- 2008 Scion xB

what is the difference between a regular remote start for auto as apposed to manuel. is it harder.. does it come with a clutch bypass or something..

Manual remote starters moniter the doors and the ebrake. When you exit the vehicle you 'go thru" certain steps. Push the foot brake, set the ebrake with the car in neutral. Turn off the key, exit the car and shut the door....then the car shuts down and you lock it and off you go. The r/s knows the car is in neutral, and safe to start. If you unlock the doors, and get in with out remote starting....it WON"T remote start untill you go thru the sequence all over again. It's fool proof. UNLESS you do it on a rag top, or leave your windows down, then the car could be put in gear without opening a door.
