I'm ordering a Viper 791XV, and I've figured out wiring for everything except one thing. When I unlock my doors, lights come on under the side view mirrors. I didn't see anything about this in the wiring diagrams or is it just tied into the lock triggers?

Thanks for the help.

Its typically tied in to the factory disarm wire.  So when you pulse that wire it should hit your lights for you

I was reading through the installation manual for the 791 xv and it says it will trigger your defrost for you.

Does anyone know what wire this is on a 2001 explorer sport?

Thanks again for the help.

Look for a dark blue/orange behind the switch. It requires a negative trigger. No info on if it's latched, or pulsed, so test it.

It should be pulse according to the diagram , the wire runs to theGEM module then the module activates the defroster relay. But as KarTuneMan sais test to find out.  Also the pulse or constant depened if it is an early or late model , but the wire is the same color. (darkblue/orange)

Is up to the installer to test all wires with a DMM whenever possible.

How do I test to determine whether it's pulsed or constant?

Also, looking through the installation manual, I didn't see which wire should be used for the defrost.

Okay, I'm mapping out all of my connections, and came across one confusion.

The wire that connects to the accessory wire in my ignition harness is supposed to connect to the wire that powers the climate control in the car.

The wiring diagram for my 2001 explorer sport shows Brown (x2) for the acc wire and then a 2nd acc wire is BLACK/ green.

Installation manual says some cars will ahve separate wires for the blower motor and ac compressor, in this case I'll need a relay to power the 2nd acc wire.

How do I figure out which of the three wires the are labeled accessory in my vehicle need to be tied to the alarms accessory output?

Thanks for the help.

All of the info I could find shows 2 ign 1 accs. You only need the second accs. for doing the windows, etc. (not really needed)

12 VOLTS Yellow Ignition switch harness   +
IGNITION Lt.GREEN/ violet Ignition switch harness   +
IGNITION 2 BLACK/ green Ignition switch harness   +
ACCESSORY Brown Ignition switch harness   +
STARTER Red & RED / blue Ignition switch harness   +
KEY SENSE BLACK/ pink Ignition switch harness   -
Wire goes to pin 10 (early production) or pin A-18 (late production) of GEM behind center of dash.

I was reading through the installation manual for the 791 xv and it says it will trigger your defrost for you.

Keep reading.....you'll find it!

Thanks for all your help. I found which wire it was after rereading, I must have overlooked it. How do I determine whether it needs to be pulsed or latched?

I looked it up on this website and you had posted this previously:

12volts
 yellow
 +
 ignition harness

Starter RED / lt. blue  +  ignition harness
Second Starter N/A
Ignition lt. GREEN/ purple  +  ignition harness
Second Ignition N/A
Third Ignition N/A
Accessory brown (x2)  +  ignition harness
Second Accessory BLACK/ green  +  ignition harness

Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for your help.

I keep thinking of another question.

Here's one more. Will I have to use a relay to connect the door triggers of both doors, or will one of them "see" both?

Use both wires and diode isolate each from the GEM module, refer to DirectFax document 1076 for wiring information.

Thank you for your help.

I'm pretty sure there are two brown accessory wires, and in the installation manual it says I'll need a relay to trigger both of those.

What relay do I need and what connections do I make?

Once again, thanks for the help.

Single pull double throw (spdt). You can get one at any auto parts store.

here's the connections.

86.....acc wire from remote start

87.....constant 12v

85 .....ground

30.....out to second brown wire.

So, basically the first brown is gonna be powered by the remote starts acc. wire directly. Solder a wire into the RS acc wire and that goes to 86.

Nevermind my last post. Since you are not using the pink/white wire as a second ignition, you can go into the programming of the unit  ( step 3-9) and change it to be a second acc. No relay needed.

I've started installing my alarm. Everything's going smoothly, but I have one question.

What exactly do I do with the hood pin? There's not a lot of direction in the manual. It's a black button that has a disconnector on the other end... and in the same baggie there is a connection that connects to that disconnector.

I don't see how it can differ from when the button is pushed or when it's not.

Honestly I'm clueless here. Thanks for the help.

I'm installing a 791xv on a 2001 explorer sport.

I split the unlock wire into the seperate wires and diode isolated them to go to the unlock wire, the door ajar wire and the factory disarm wire as techtip1093 says to do with this vehicle.

My alarm has a seperate wire to go to my factory disarm as well and it says something about a relay.

Do I have to use a relay to send the pulse to that wire?
