Hello all.
I'm having an issue with a base model 4-cyl 2007 Toyota RAV4 regarding the RS part. I'm using a Magnadyne M7A RS/Alarm and the install is basically done except for the RS part. Here's the issue:
According to the Directed tech sheet, I should find two wires that I am not finding in the ignition harness.
First, the "thick" 16 ga. red wire in the harness is not an accessory... in fact, it never gets 12V as per my meter, regardless of key position. The radio and accessories in the car all still work, so I know that the accessory wire didn't lose power at soem point. I probed until exhausted, but could not find even one accessory (+) wire in that ignition harness! Where is the darn accessory wire?
Second, the data sheet says there is a second starter wire in the ignition harness (white), but I tested all those there too, and no +12V when cranking.
So basically, here's what I have connected in the M7A's main power harness:
2 red wires for +12V constant - one at the ~12ga. blue and one at the ~6ga. white constant feeds at the relay/fuse panel above the driver's kick
1 yellow wire (ignition) to the ignition harness white wire (~14ga.)
1 pink wire (ingition 2) to the ignition harness pink wire (~14-16ga.)
1 violet wire (starter) to the ignition harness yellow wire (~14ga.)
1 brown accessory wire not hooked up - can't find the correct wire to tap
Another thing that makes me question the tech data sheet... the blue ~16ga wire in the wiring harness is NOT a +12V constant like the sheet says. What's going on here? Are the V6 and 4-cylinder RAV4's different in vehicle wiring? Or do I just need a real deep deeeeep breath?!?!
One last thing: does the base model also have an immobilizer? The base model has the thick key with built-in keyless entry, so I'm guessing yes.
Any assistance is welcomed. Thanks!

The only red wire at the ign. harness is accs.1 Ign 1 is the big white, the small white is first starter. 12 VOLTS | Blue | Ignition switch harness | + | IGNITION | White | Ignition switch harness | + | | | There are 2 wires of this color at the switch, test carefully. |
| IGNITION 2 | Pink | Ignition switch harness | + | ACCESSORY | Red | Ignition switch harness | + | STARTER | White | Ignition switch harness | + | STARTER 2 | Yellow | Ignition switch harness | + | | | There are 2 wires of this color at the switch, test carefully. |

Well, I found out the answer to one of my Q's... yes, I need a PKT2 for the RS unit.

KarTune,
I had no luck getting any (+) from the red wire in the ignition harness, in accessory position or any other key position. Wondering if it's a fuse. I'll have the car again next weekend to revist the situation.
Thank you.

Have you removed the black plastic steering column cover? It just snaps off. It doesn't even have screws.
After that, you can easily see the plug that goes into the ignition switch, and it'll be easier to know the size/color of the wires you want.
The accessory wire isn't needed, unless you desire the radio to come on during remote start.
If it has manual climate controls, it should NOT have a transponder.
If the valet key has a thin head, it does not have a transponder.
As for the master key, the non-transponder one has three buttons: lock, unlock, and panic.
The transponder model gets a remote with lock, unlock, and panic, but there is also a fourth area that looks like it should have a button, but doesn't. It looks like the same key as a 2007 Camry, minus the trunk button.

Thank you Chris.
It's sometimes TOO simple - we take things for granted.
Exactly as Chris had predicted - I opened up the steering column cover this morning, picked the starter and accessory wires in about 4 minutes, and had the job done in 10!
And also correct - the base models do not need the transponder.
Thanks again all. Love this place.

i would like to add that ONLY the LIMITED models have the transponder key in them. when looking at the key, the transponder based key will have the keyless entry as the head of the key with a RUBBER overlay on the lock/unlock/panic buttons. NON-TRANSPONDER keyfobs have hard plastic buttons. hope this info helps. d8^)
