Help me out. I'm down to these two alarm system. I don't care for the remote starter, I will not use it anyway.

my take:

Autopage - lots of features, love the vibrating feature on the remote - this can be handy when you're in a meeting.

Compustar - love the remote and the 2 optional outputs. I've been told the newer Compustar are more reliable.

which company have been around longer?

Are you installing it or someone else ?? Look at warranty issues as well as if you do it yourself, will warranty be void or not. Compustar I know you can not get warranty if someone other than an authorized installer installs it.

Will most likely have a professional installer do it.

are u going to use it for a 5-speed?

the compustar looks better, i regret getting my autopage...i got range problems but then other ppl seem to have good range...maybe my car sux or my autopage is defective

the vibrate for the remote is indeed pretty good though

and with autopage if u want it to glow u have to press the button to make it glow the backgroudn green..with compustar any button u press it wil glow, waste of battery though

i bet its the install or antenna itself. like i said i have put in over a 100 of these and never a bad part.

Posted By: weiweiwei
Date Posted: February 09, 2003 at 3:31 PM

if it's the install..what could it be? like everytying works fine...just that...isn't it just plug the wire straight from the antena into the brain??

or if he extended the wire for antena?

Posted By: securinu

it is a ribbon wire so it could have been pinched somewhere along the line

Posted By: weiweiwei
Date Posted: February 09, 2003 at 3:45 PM
so u've had problems when u tried pinching it?

Posted By: securinu

no it sounds to me like the wire may be pinched.  check the wire or have your installer check it.

Just for the sake of warranty and all I think I'm better off getting a new one. Another problem is my car is a bitch to work on so I want the shop to be responsibile for everything from parts to installation :)

If you are not interested in the starter features, then you really should not need incredible range anyway.  You will have good range from the car to the transmitter so that you can know what is going on with your car.  The autopage units have great range, I think weiweiwei's problem is a pinched antenna wire, or perhaps bad positioning.  Every vehicle is different as far as range is concerned so antenna placement can be a critical.  Do the autopage units have an onboard shock sensor?  The Commando 760's do and they are supposed to be the same unit.  But for an alarm the onboard shock sensor is very nice to have since you can change the sensitivity from the transmitter.

I am not sure why anyone would not want to use a remote starter if you had one, even if you are where it is warm you can use it for your AC in the summer, and it is always better for your car to have it running for at least a minute before you tear off, no matter what the season.

Just my 2 cents

i dunno if it's onboard shock sensor or not, but its this black square and its both shock and glas..and u plug it with this wire straight into the brain

hmm..so u suggest it's a pinched wire also...i'll take it the installer in a few days to get that checked out..for a typical car with autopage..how far can u go and still transmit signal to the car??

the guy Ap1-f20c  has a 5-speed so i think he doesan't want remote start on that

yo Ap1-f20c  if u dont need remote start and if my range is caaused by the antena, and i fix that, u wanna buy mine?  i got warranty from boyz club for the product but installed somewhere else...u'll save alot dude

reason i want compustar now is because it has the reservation mode so it's a safety thing for remote starting a 5-speed...the autopage was never meant for 5-speed if u want remote start so im kinda scared...

weiweiwei.. I'll let you know over revscene. I'm getting a quote on the Compustar from Vader.

I did a few searches on this forum and a few others and as it turns out you're not alone with the bad range. It seems to be a common problem with the autopage. Some even went as far as adding an extra coxial attenna just to get a better range.

I have a 6spd and the car is always parked inside. I have a habit of leaving it in 1st gear when I park. Remote starter is a definite no no for me. It'll cause me more headache.

hm..i did a search in this forum and couldn't find anything on bad range with ppl...i thought i'm the only one.........

my friend got a compustar from vader for $900 and its a pretty basic install with remote start..but weird thing is they didnt' install the windshield knock sensor and funny thing my friend doesn't even know theres such thing and they never told him, plus no instruction book, no box,

Just curious, what do you need good range for if you only have an alarm?  If you are concerned about being notified when you are away from your car, the signal goes farther when it is coming from the car.

what other forum did you search that had bad info on autopage??

Date Posted: February 09, 2003 at 10:25 PM

yea i want to know too Ap1-f20c, where else have u searched??

i just done a serach in 12volte entire all forums, and only came up with this thread that says they need range, but it's a diff alarm

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/display_topic_threads.asp?...

i hope you weren't referring to this thread about ppl going coxial to extend range...

im pretty sure autopage doesn't sux, since nobody have this problem except for me, i have tinted banner on my front windshield, and factory doesn't have any tint..i added it myself...and the antena is mounted on top right corner of windshield, which means right on top of the tint...

and my 2000 prelude has built in antena for radio and thats mounted on the rear glass in the inside...

could tint or that antena be interference with signal and reception??

maybe i should try mounting it on the bot right corner of windshield...or bot left..probalby wouldn't try top middle..cuz of tint..hm...that's probably going to be alot of work for the installer guy..to move it down there??

yea why does it suck? im swapping my autpage 750 for a compustar

does the compustar have the ignition controleld door lock problem like the autopage?

compustar remote doesn't have a clock right? does it beep louder than the autopage when it's paging??

compustar sux cause there product is junk the remote are huge dont get the range they say and there defective rate is 75%. and why are so many people concerned over the ignition locks . we call them bitch locks cause only old women get them. how hard is it to press the lock switch if you wan them locked . if you are scared about where you drive maybe you shouldnt drive there. just my $.02

first of all, the remote is not huge, the autopage is bigger..which one are u talkiong about? the 2WSS or 2WFM??

and i've seen compustar and range is better than autopage

you obviously have a range issue with your autopage unit. if you want to go with compustar then go just keep in mind there customer service sux and so does there product. there ranges are no where near what they claim and never will be . when you install over 50 2-ways a month then let me know what you think of both systems . until then dont go with what you have been told go with what you know. i know compustar sux i dont need anyone to tell me this , i know cause i installed all of them , i have first hand experience. and paid the price having to swap out customers to make it right for them. when your in business and you sell something you stand behind it if you have any business ethics . i do so i swapped about 30 @ about $200 product +supplies + the original compustars price $175 do the math its over $11,000.00 i believe i know what i am talking about.
