I have a 2001 Ford Escape, with a BullDog RS1200E remote starter.  I am having two issues with it.

1.  Whenever the temp is below ~30F, it won't start.  The THEFT light on the dash goes off, meaning its not receiving the transponder code.  I have the #791 Bypass Module, with an extra key place inside the module.  I have the loops from the module placed around the ignition coil.  Does anyone know why this is not working?  I assume since I have the transponder, its not a resistance issue like with the PATS.

2.  When I was installing the remote starter, I hooked up the dome light trigger with a optional relay.  I tapped into the door trigger, without the diodes that I read about on this forum......Well, not my truck is messed up.  My truck always thinks my door is open, and its sitting at +12volts.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Or were to even begin.

1. Depending on how the module is sitting and how the key is sitting in the module, when it gets colder, it could have slipped out of the " sweet spot ".

2. Is there a wire that is shorting out the door trigger wire ?

Velocity Motors,

1.  Once it warms up, its starts back up.  This is without the key moving back to the "sweet spot".

2.  I currently have the door trigger wire  disconnect fromt he remote starter, and taped up.  Therefore, it should be stock.

I also tried using a OBDII reader to see if were any diagnostic codes.  It didn't detect anything wrong.

1.  You say your theft light goes off.  What do you mean?  The light shuts off or it flashes?  Usually it is normal for the light to come on then go off if it detects the key.  If it flashes then that usually means problems.

I'll guess that the unit has been installed tachless.

Find a time when the car is ice cold.  Leave the heat completely off, but start and run the engine for about five minutes----allowing it to warm up a bit and idle normally.

Now, you have a slightly warm engine, but an ice-cold remote start brain, transponder bypass unit, and spare key.

Try remote starting the car in this condition-----if it works now, you've just pretty much proven that the problem has nothing to do with the temperature of the products installed.

Player69,

The theft light normally blinks slowly.  When I try to remote start, it flashs faster.

Luongo,

Yeh, its tachless.  Thanks for the tip, i'll try that tomorrow morning, when its colder out.  Its too warm right now, it works fine.

if the theft light flashes fast, that should mean that the car is not seeing the signal from the transponder.  The trensponder in the key may be freezing.  They sell these really cool miniature down winter jackets for keys and you should get one of theseposted_image  .  There is not much you can do as far as I know about that.  Maybe set your car to start every few hours in the middle of the night.

You could also get a hard wired bypass module.  I really, really hate wrapping the key and cylinder.  Why?  Because of the exact problem you are having.

Well, I spoke with BullDog Securities, and they sent me a new Bypass Module. The old one has a ribbon cable that wraps around the key. The new one has a hand wound coil instead. This seems to have solved the problem, it now starts when its colder than 30°F.

I still haven't solve the door trigger problem. Waiting for my wiring manual to arrive.
