Hey guys, I have a question for you. In the newer vehicles, we are seeing smaller wires in the ignition harness. In fact, Directechs specifies current capacities on many +12V wires located there. Most of our remote start units have dual power wires each with 30 amp fuses. So in the cases Directechs specifies less than 60 amps, we have been running power directly to the battery. I was wondering what you guys use as a reference to get power at the battery. Do you guys still use the ignition harness even when Directechs specifies like 30 amps? Thanks for your input.
I asked that same question to the instructor at the snake pit in San Diego. I was told that if the constant power wire is able to power up the ign harness then you can just use that. For example, if you have 2 constant wires on the ign harness then tap into both. Otherwise if you have 1 then just one unless specified by DEI like the 2007 Chevy Avalanche where Directed actually advises to go to the battery.
On these types of vehicles, the astro guys suggest going to a "feed" into the bcm.....mutiple connections. Such as the Avalanche mentioned above. There are 4 possable connections for 12v (high current) at the ECM, BCM...whatever you choose to call it.
Same applies with the newer dodge Chysler products. The 12v constants at the harness are 20 amps....not quite enough (for safety sake) Keep in mind, the feed to the ignition harness controls only the ignition curcuit. The remorte start module controls alot more.

Since they are already fused I like to run it to the battery supply to the fuse box in the engine compartment. The connection is typicallly covered by the plastic cover to the fuse/relay box so it looks clean with a little loom.
