What should i get?

I have a stock keyless entry system on my 1994 GMC S15 Jimmy. The remote works only about 10ft. from my car, so I'm going to replace it. I have an expensive sound system in my car, so I'm going to add an alarm as well. Later I might want to add a remote start. Can I just buy an alarm and use the existing keyless entry? Would the alarm remote act as my keyless enty also? Or should I just get an alarm with everything built in? Are alarms hard to install.

I'm considering an impulse imp-3000. Nice and cheap! Are these any good? Has anybody had any experience with these?

Any alarm will install into your keyless entry by just installing it into the wires. The alarm will act as your keyless entry and also, I think you should just go for a alarm/remtoe starter combo right off the bat..... saves on install time and also less wires to hook up in the end. most people on this forum aren't too impressed with the IMP model of starter's and alarms. I personally have had my experiences with these and I suggest looking at something more reputable and higher quality. Remember....... if you have an expensive stereo system, why cheap out on the one thing that's going to be protecting it ??

If you have a good 12 bolt back ground, the installation will be easy,.... if this is your first one.... be warned as replacement parts for electrical devices are not cheap....... leave it to a professional and pay the $ 100.00 for install rather than the $ 500 for a new BCM or ECM.

 Thanks for the help! So do all alarms have the ability to adapt to my factory keyless entry? Will I use the alarm's remote or my original from the factory? What type of alarm combo do you recomend? I'm kinda on a budget so an alarm that cost hundreds is out of the question.

As I read other posts I notice that a lot of cars have built in "obstacles" that people must overcome such as the factories anti-theft system and unusual locking configurations. Does mine have anything that will cause problems?

• Yes, all alarms have the capability to tie into the keyless entry wires of your vehicle. You may have to add relays depending on which unit you end up buying because not all companies have the ability to operate (-) & ( + ) polarity locking systems.

Will I use the alarm's remote or my original from the factory?

• You will most likely benefit the most if you use the alarm remote as the range is better and the use of the OEM remote will not increase your range at all.

What type of alarm combo do you recomend?

• Brand specific alarms are probably the best ones to get. What I mean is companies that have a reputation for high quality products. DEI porducts nad Alpine come to mind for the econo minded consumer

• You can get very reputable and decent alarms for under $ 150.00 . The IMP brand of units are not the best and remember...... will you trust your $ 2000 car audio system to an alarm that's worth $ 50.00 or one that is more reputable and costs you $ 150 ??
• NOT to say that money counts in quality, but in this case it does . You get what you pay for.

My system is probably around $1000, plus I took the liberty with carriage bolts to bolt my entire system to the chassis. So if someone really wants my system, not only will they have to work there butt off, but they will probably end up hurting themselves in the process. Thus, my primary concern is the keyless entry simply for convience, the alarm will be something extra.
