remote start and dome light

i installed a alarm wiht remote start the other day. i used the GM-SL or something module that goes to the purple wire on the OBD2 that controlled my lights and locks.

i have two problems. 1. my remote start does not work. when i activate it, it cranks the car for a a second then sounds like its just about to start, but stops.

2. since my interior lights are delayed turning off, it sets the alarm off when i lock the doors. i tried the dome light delay procedure that my alarm is suspose to have. ill try it again.

do i need a another module to disable the stock security system? in the manual for the module i have now it says it does passlock? am i suspose to hook up another wire other than the purple one in the OBD2 connector?

The GM-SL will bypass the factory security for remote start. Did you program it correctly? Make sure that you do have it programmed correctly. To program it, have the module disconnected at first. Hold the programming button and keep it held, plug the connectors while still holding the button. the light will turn on red. insert the key and have it in the ignition on position. when the light starts flashing rapidly, you can release the programming button. start the truck with the key, and the led on the module will turn off. the module will be programmed and ready for use.

I have used this module many times and have never had a problem with it. Hope this does the trick for you.

maybe i dont have all the wires hooked up. do i need to hook up the pink/black and pink wires on connector 2?

the second connector has the door triggers and its the white and required a negative trigger wire input from alarm.  The first connector is the dome supervision which is probably why it goes off.  Just follow pro17 instructions and you will be good to go.

thats how i programed it. but im not using the dome light supervision wire from it cause it says + input. im using my alarms dome light wire because thats a negative input which is what i thought the car put out.

the doors work fine, so i assume its programed correctly. the remote start just doesn't want to start. it cranks and then sounds like its about to start as if it had a bad fuel pump and was trying to start on residual fuel.

Did you try to remote start with key in ignition(not turned to on)? Did it stay on?  Did the security light turn off?  Did you connect your tach wire?

tach is learned. never tried it with the key in ignition. didn't think that would do anything since its not a vats style chiped key.

Professional-quality installation is not based on what we think the car puts out. We must test every wire we connect to. Don't trust tech sheets, don't trust what we tell you either.....you're the installer, and it's up to you to test that you're on the right wire.

The domelight on your truck is positive when the domelight is on. After the delayed domelight goes out, the wire rests at a ground....that's why your alarm is falsing.

As for the remote start, again, you'll want to test everything to verify proper function. You didn't mention what kind of alarm/remote start you're installing.

You'll want to go to your Passlock adapter, and directly at the plug for the adapter, test everything for proper connection.....ground, constant, ground-when-running from the remote start, etcetera.

TIP: If there is a Passlock failure three times in a row, Passlock will disable the car, until you leave the ignition on for 10 minutes.

So basically, if you make two attempts to remote start and it fails....don't do it again. Start the car with the key and let it run a few seconds, shut it off, and then go back to trying again.

i found the problem with the remote start. haven't tried it yet. but i had the ground in wire for the GMSL just to the cars ground and not the remote start ground output while cranking. hopefully that will solve it.

so should i change the wire for my dome light from the remote start. he gray/black wire on connector 1 on the gmsl should go to my dome light supervision wire. black plug on BCM gray/black wire.

for the dome light you can use a relay to change polarity.... connect the gray/black wire to 87, constant 12v to 30, 85 to your (-) dome light supervision from alarm, and constant12v to 86.  Reprogram the bypass after you connected the blue wire to the remote start BLACK / YELLOW wire. 

i have my dome light from alarm going to the wire trigger wire on the GMSL. so i should put that wire to the alarm door trigger and then do what you said above?
