I have a crimestopper alarm I have a varad alien scanner been hooked up for 4 years its very dim so I bought a varad raptor scanner to replace it. I hooked up new led scanner using same wires that are hooked up red to 12v constant black to body ground and orange to gwa (orange starter kill on alarm) with a 1 watt diode and the thing will not work. I have tested the scanner by grounding orange wire and it works just not with alarm. I never had problems with the alien scanner and still works what is wrong with this new one. any one have any ideas!!!

arm the alarm.using your multimeter you turn to ac and connect red probe to constant and connect black lead to the orange wire connected to the scanner. It miight be a very weak volt signal therefore giving you a dim  light. It may be a orange wire that is affecting it.

I tried that already getting 12.3 v on meter I also have a window mod on that out put and window mod works fine so I know the output works also tried unhooking window mod and hooked up only scanner and still would not work. I have hooked up scanner to #3 button opp. and it worked but you have to hold button for that -output to be constant.Did that just to see if scanners trigger was working.

did you connect with diode in line? try going direct with orange wire.

Tried that too. Tried with 1w diode in both directions still will not work.

with diode only negavite will work one way.  only thing that i would think would be the orange wre since the ground works and the other channel works.  It could be the diode.  Im trying to understand that your stating that all of a sudden  it stopped working?  was anything change recently?  i dont know if you understoo by without the diode in line connect the wire.  if the wire is connect to the relay just cut it to test it and not have any other wire connected to it.

no I just got the raptor led scanner to replace the old fadding el display alien scanner that still works I have not got the raptor scanner to work with the gwa the alien scanners only have about a 5 year life because it is el display and it is about 4 years old so it is about used up I just wanted a new scanner .as for the diode I have tried 3 differant kinds of 1w diodes strip to alarm end and fliped to strip to scanner end did not work in any direction.

did you bench test the new scranner?  are they the same color as the alien scanner?  well for the diode i just meant to cut the wire from the starter kill if connected and do not use a diode and connect to the wire that is the input.

O  I did that at first because I never had a diode on the alien scanner just pick up a few to try and get this new one to work and no starter kill do not like them after the one on the code alarm I had years ago stopped working and car would not start. But I have tried scanner only on gwa wire with and with out diode. What would happen if I put a relay on the scanner?

there is no need for a relay but if youd like you can connect 12v to 85,orange wire to 86, ground(-) to 30, and the wire from the scanner on 87.  give me the exact model to look up wiring for that scanner.

remember, if you want to program you have to connect orange wire from scanner to power and press button behind scanner.  After programming just connecct back to the way it was and your done

I believe your supposed to use a switching diode, just fought the same battle as you. Glad to hear the relay method works also.

While the relay works, it'd be better to find a suitable diode to use for this, because a relay draws too much current for it to be used for key off purposes. They should only be used for momentary applications or where the engine is running. If you start the car regularly and don't let it sit for long periods, you'd be okay, but you may as well just leave it permanently on by just connecting the wire to ground.
