I have installed a hornet 851T remote starter on my 97 Silverado. The default cranking time of .6 sec isn't always enough to start the engine. I want to change it to 1 sec, but the the instructions are vague at best. How do I select the different features and choose a different setting? Thanks

Open a door and make sure that your door trigger wire is connected. Turn the ignition on then back off. Press and hold your valet switch until you hear three chirps. after the three chirps release the switch. then press it again six times and hold it until you hear 5 chirps release it and by pressing channel 2 you should hear 2 chirps if not enough time repeat the steps and press channel 2 on the remote twice moving the desired time up. These are the times that you can program in this order. 0.8,1.0,1.2,1.6,1.8,2.0,4.0 Hope this helps.

did you hook up a tach wire? all dei viper units come already in tach mode and you would have to change it to do voltage sense,  tach is the best when you have time to do the install, maybe the hornet comes in voltage sense and if i were you i would read the instructions and change it to tach, then you won't have to worry about crank time.

the 851 hornet is the same model as the  Valet 551r, that just a do it yourself piece. that can be bought at most super stores and it come wiyh an instructional video to simplify installation. ( yeah right )

Just turn ignition press the valet switch 5 times then press one more time and hold it, the LED in the module will blink 5 time.

press button 2  to increse timing. These are the times that you can program in this order. 0.8,1.0,1.2,1.6,1.8,2.0,4.0

or use this link use this manual it is the same piece. May Ialso suggest program the unit for Tach and run a wire to it.  you won't have to worry about the crank timing,  and it  will start every single time

Thanks everybody, I will give it a shot tonight. If anyone has a customer comment line to DEI I have a few words I'd like to pass along about there easy "self install" instructions.

It works. The 551R instructions did the trick. Thanks Luis
