I have an alarm on a 1999 Chevy S-10 and it is a factory alarm. But nothing works, just the blinking l.e.d. on the dash. I have factory remotes and I can hear the alarm "click" when you lock/unlock, but no locking action. I looked on the brain and all I can see is the wire codes and a E-15GM number. Can anyone help with a manual or some sort of instructions on how or what this alarm can do? Please help

Does anyone have the manual or instructions for this alarm? If so I would like to get some more info. Thanks in advance!

That's not a factory alarm.  If there was a factory alarm, it'd work like zargon says, but it uses the dashboard "security" lamp to indicate what it's doing----there's no LED.

If the alarm brain does say GM on it, that still doesn't mean it's factory installed----there are aftermarket alarms with the GM name on them, sold through the parts department.  Usually, these units get installed by aftermarket installers for the dealer's customers.

If you close the door and set the alarm....... do its other funtions still work?  Will it sound off if you open a door by hand?  Is the starter disabled?

If it's only the locks that aren't working, it shouldn't be too hard to troubleshoot that.  The lock wires in that truck are blue, and white, to the right of the gas pedal.  Look for the place where the installer connected to them, and then follow that wiring back to the alarm brain.  Inspect the connections, and test the lock outputs of the alarm.

Nothing works but the starter disable and I messed with it and took it out of valet mode. The lock plug, the shock sensor, and the siren are not even hooked up? They are missing? Why I don't know! But it will arm itself and you have to unlock the unit before you can start it now. Can anyone help find some instructions for it so I can figure out how to work it? Thanks for the help.

White30, please make  your own post; no need to intrude on this one.

underground,

Have you had it for a long time and these problems just appeared.....or did you just buy the truck used, and this is what you found?

At my job, we mainly do dealer work, and we'll set up a system in pretty much any way the dealer wants.  Dealers generally sell alarms on the basis that you'll get an insurance discount because of the starter kill.  Also, sometimes customers are cheap and don't want to pay for all the features, or in other cases, they get freaked out by car alarms for whatever reason, but they still want the insurance discount.

What I'm getting at, is that sometimes the dealer will only want a remote-controlled kill switch.  Minimal cost, minimal complexity, and customer still gets his insurance discount.  But...... remote kill-only devices aren't common, and we don't sell one.  Instead, we'll just use a keyless entry system to activate the starter kill, but we don't hook up the keyless features.  And then, sometimes we even run out of keyless entry units.....which means we put in a full alarm system, but we delete the siren, shock sensor, and keyless-----we just put in the brain, starter kill, LED, and valet switch.

For what you're saying, it sounds like you have an alarm system in there, but installed as keyless only.  If you have the time and inclination, you could probably test the functions of the leftover wires, and hook them up.

Usually, the lock/unlock outputs are in a separate plug.  The plug may have two or three pins in it.  Use a meter to test those pins while operating your remote, and if they test right, hook them up.

aWhite30, we're trying to help "underground" figure out his situation with his S-10..... if you'd be considerate and start your own separate post, with decent grammar, we'd be more than happy to help.

Since white seems to be having fun with his alarm....try this buddy hook a 1.5k resister on the unlock wire and hook both the lock and unlock wires from the alarm to that white wire in the drivers kick. If that doesnt work, switch the resister to the lock wire. That car has a one wire lock switch system. Have fun!

The truck is used and the wehicle was set in valet mode. When I was messing with the alarm I took it out of valet mode, now it arms itself and you have to unlock or disarm just to start it.I have and old alarm that I removed from a customer ride before. Same alarm but it has everything, so I want to hook up the lock/unlock function so the owner at least his keyless entry works. The plug has 5 wires - 1. lock motor, 2. lock switch, 3. Polarity, 4. unlock motor, 5. unlock switch. All i need to know is what wire #3 goes to. Can you help?

If it has that many wires, the alarm has its own built in relays. Do the following to set up the outputs for positive trigger:

Polarity goes to fused constant power

lock switch, unlock switch, are unused.

lock motor goes to the blue lock wire in the car.
unlock motor goes to the white unlock wire in the car.

that white guy dosent sound very white to me. anyway underground i say pull the thing out and install a whole new system, this thing sounds like its causing more problems than its worth. chris is right about the dealer alarms though.  i used to do them also.  they only hook up what the customer wants, so everything should be there in fact the connections may have already been made at the time it was installed and changed, cut, later when the car was sold.
