I finally got my remote start in and almost working. when you push the button, the remote start turns on the lights, waits, and attempts to start. It turns over, but the enginge doenst fire off, so it stops and tries again, then a third time, then gives up. Same thing over and over. I have it hooked up with the smart start (tachless), and all the wires seem to be correct. It is a 99 tacoma. I have 1st and 2nd ignition hooked up. Has anyone ran across this before? What may the problem be?

Use the tach sense mode & program the tach learn to the remote starter and it will work for you. TACHOMETER----------------black | |igniter or cluster *2 * 2 Igniter is located on the right side of engine compartment for V6 and on the left side for the 2.4L 4 cylinder. On the 2.7L 4 cylinder it will be located at the ECM behind the glove box or at the cluster. ------------- Jeff

"smart tach" hahaha..... never heard that one before.... they should call it "stupid tach." Definitely use tach. Also, information for 2001-up Tacomas shows that on some 4-cylinder models, you can find tach at the diagnostic plug under the dash. Even though yours is a '99, it could never hurt to test and see if it's in there.

Wll I tried that, still the same thing. It is like I am not getting any fuel to the injectors or something. I can put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position and push the button and it works fine. I am really lost on this one.

1st.....try to start the car with your alarm with the key in the ignition on the "off"possition..........if it works the key has a transponder if it doesn't the problem is in the wiring. to check yor wires do as follows...... -try it manually.......get the heavy gage wires from the alarm and try to hot wire your car.....( join all ignitions, power them with constant (+), and crank(with the wire the alarm woul use to crank it)......... ---if the car turns on this way that means that you hooked up the alarms acc wire to one of the true ignitions of your car(true ignition turns to (+) when key on the on possition and stays that way during cranking time) hope this helps ------------- ossrom

<<<I can put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position and push the button and it works fine>>> If that's the case then maybe your car either has some sort of factory security your not bypassing (unlikely on a 99 toyota..), or your not firing up the right ignition wires. Tell us what all you tapped into and maybe we can help you..Here's what I can find for a 99 Tacoma: Starter: Black Ignition 1: BLACK/ Red Ignition 2: BLACK / YELLOW Heat/AC: Blue/Red I thought this truck was similar to a nissan frontier which have 2 starter wires you need to fire up, but I don't see anything about it so I'm probably just crazy..Also check to make sure on your unit that the second ignition wire is programmed as an ignition wire and not an heater/accessory wire if your unit has that option..Good luck let us know what it turns out to be! You probablly have the ignition wires reverse with the accessory wire, double check your connections.

I had a similar problem with my camry I didnt have both of the igintion wires hooked up correctly which let the engine crank but not start. Also, it will crank but not start if the transponder bypass in not hooked up. Gil

I dont think it has the transponder thing, I have several keys, some have the plastic around it, and some are just plain metal with nothing and they work fine. Im thinking it is a wiring problem. I will have to check into it with more detail when I get the chance, I have a research paper due tomorrow and I have to finish it before anything else. Thanks for the tips though.
