Subject: hooking up heated seats w/ starter?

Hi all:
I have a 2001 GMC Yukon and need to know how to hook up the heated seats to my auto-starter? Is there an easy way to do it like in the kick panel or do I need to go to the switch in the driver's door? Thanks.

You must go to the switch in the door. Look on the back of the little board. Look at it with the actual switch to the right. Just below the switch you will see 2 large solder points. Down to the left, and down to the right. Wire a relay like this 86 12volts, 85 use the trunk output from the unit. 30 thru a 2K resistor goes to the solder point on the left. 87 get's the other solder point. AFTER REMOTE STARTING....push the trunk pop, the drivers seat will turnm on high, hit the trunk pop again, it will switch to low, again, it will turn off. This works.....have fun!

I think easier way way to use GMDLBP which does it too....

They were talking about using a data interface module to control the seats through the computer, my info however also says that that wont work and you need to do the relay method to activate the seats.

Sounds good. I will give the relay method a shot. Are the resistors neccesary or can I just run the relay alone? Thanks again.

The 2000 ohm resistor IS needed.

On Chevy and GMC pickups, the heated seats were not controlled thru data until 2003, so the relay method mentioned is the only way to do it.

As far as the resistor, I have never put it in. I don't know why it would be necessary either, since all the relay is doing is making contact between the same two points that the switch does when you press it, I cant imagine what the resistor would do. I am not saying that is incorrect to place the resistor inline, but it doesn't appear to be necessary, since I have done dozens of these integrations without the resistor, and haven't had a single comeback yet.

I would apreciate it if someone could explain what I am missing. I have been installing professionally for 8 years now, but the more I install, the more I realize that there is always something to learn, and better ways of doing stuff are always popping up.

Northstart.....or start it your damn self.

Measure between the 2 solder points....when you push the seat button on the door panal you will see a resistance value. The resistor simulates the actual function of the switch. You might get away with it, as you stated, you might not. I play the caution side.......
