ok guys.... i got my remote start done (viper 791) with the bypass module (dei 555l), and everything seemed to be working fine....it starts the truck normal, but my check engine light is on, and the transmission isnt working right....it takes off really hard in first gear, and shifts terribly to 2nd gear....if i shut the truck off and start it with the key, everything works great, but my light never goes off....anybody have ideas??? did i miss a wire or what?? (the 2nd ignition wire is hooked up, the white wire, so thats not the problem) anybody heard of this before?? thanks a lot

The problem could be that you damaged your transmission....you have to power up all the ign wires on the harness.. not powering one up will cause the check engine light to come on and potentionally damage that.  What year is the vehicle?and how many wires did you hook up from the relay pack?

double check the 2nd ign white wire, and make sure it's getting 12v at the correct time., disconnect the batt for a few mins then the light should go out, start it with the key, drive it around, if the light stays off it's the rs doing it. if it comes back on, get a scan tool and pull the code.....

DEI states that not connecting the second ign white wire can cause damage to the trans. i would hook up the second acc, brown wire as well, ive seen this trigger check engine lights.

yeah sounds like 2nd ignition to me, I've seen it throw tranmission codes if it wasn't hooked up right. Check it with a multimeter.

the 2nd ignition wire is hooked up... its a 2001 gmc, so its a white 18 gauge wire, i hooked it up to the pink/ white wire on the viper 791...it gets 12 volts at the same time the white wire does, its hooked up right...what else should i do?

hook up second acc, brown wire, that can trigger a check engine code. your trans could just be messed up by itself.

no, the transmission is not messed up by itself..........................it works perfect if i start it with the key, i already said that

are you supposed to cut the ignition wires in half? or just tap into them?? i have no idea what else to do, anybody heard of this problem before? with the transmission acting weird just because of the remote start? thanks

enis----i hooked up the purple wire to starter side of starter wire, green wire to key side of starter wire, attatched the pink wire to pink ignition wire, attatched orange wire to acces. wire.... 3 red wires to 12 volts constant.... pink/white wire to 2nd ignition wire(white)..... that should be it......... thats all of them

what im seeing here is that a wire is not getting power when remote starting.  Remember, when interfacing a remote start you must duplicate exactly what the key does in the ign, try using a relay and connect an orange wire(-) coming from the relay pack, (its actually a small ribbon) and connect your relay output to the brown wire.  Also make sure your pink/white wire wasnt programmed to act as a acc wire.(it can be programed in valet to either be an ign or acc)

ok, my mistake. but if there IS a second acc, brown wire, HOOK IT UP. it cant hurt, it might help. also as enice said check to make sure the 2nd ign output is not set to acc. hope it doesnt happen again.

advanced------- i do have a brown 16 gauge wire in my ignition harness, but all the wiring diagrams i have found say i dont have a 2nd acc wire..., but if it is acc, what do i hook it up to?? thanks bro

the small little plug that connects to the relay pack.  with a relay you would connect the orange wire(-) from that small little harness to 85. 86 and 30 to 12v, 87 to the brown wire.

it cant hurt anything. i ran into a problem a while back on a tahoe where a few months after i did the install the customer called me and said here check engine light was on. i went to diagnose the problem hooked up second acc and problem solved. its wierd that it took that long to cause a problem.

Speaking of filling Gas.. About 2 years ago up here in Canada Shell changed there fuel formulas and it caused a lot of issues on the GM products.. I know the Jimmy's were affect... Caused lights to turn on and real rough running. The service dpts simply drained the tank and some other 'fuel' things (maybe change the filter) but then were fine after that....

Just an FYI

I have seen the intermittent problem you are describing several times - specificaly on GM trucks. The problem has alway been a poor connection on the white wire. The installer will test the connection and think it's fine but it really is not. It seems that this white wire must get complete power when powering up initially.
