I am installing a Viper 5900 into my 95 240sx. The alarm side is working properly, however the remote start function does not work. When I activate the remote start, I only hear relays clicking but the starter never engages. I believe I have the relay for the starter wired incorrectly.
My car has two starter wires which are currently wired:
85 > small purple from relay satt
86 and 30 > 12 volts
87 > 2nd starter wire (BLACK/ white)
The rest of the Relay satt wires:
Purple > BLACK / YELLOW (starter side)
Green > BLACK / YELLOW (key side)
Red (2) > white 12v
Orange > WHITE/ blue accessory
Pink > BLACK/ red ign
I can start the car with the key. The tach has been learned.

Forgot to mention that I have the following wired:
remote start secondary harness (H3)
Brown > RED / green brake switch
Vilet/white > yellow/red tach signal @ ecu
BLACK/ white > grounded
The connections have been tested with a voltmeter which leads me to believe my relay isn't wired correctly. I followed instructions for the relay based on this thread

Is the tach signal important for initial remote starting? or only to keep the engine running after being started?

The first thing I would do is to check the wiring when remote starting...see if the relay pack is actually giving outputs...the starter side of purple should give 12v output to crank the car. i have 2 white wires at your ign harness,,,one is white(12v), and another white(acc). Also check to make sure the ribbon didnt get disconnected. Also does your ign wires power up(dash lighting up)?

I have a lot to learn. While its probably common knowledge among everyone on this board, you nudged me in the right direction. I checked the 2nd starter wire and traced it back to a bad diode. During my research from previous posts, I read a recommendation to place a diode on the little purple (from satt). Anyways, I then got the blinking dash lights and the car remotely started. Now I just have to adjust the crank time to keep my car going. It's currently dying out as soon as it starts up.

If your car is dying out then it may be that the tach wire has not been programmed......when learning the tach did you hear a click from the 5900 brain...if learned correctly you will hear a click after holding the valet button for 5 secs when starting the car with the key. By the way, you must program the tach wire if you didnt do so. The purpose of the tach wire is to let the brain know if the car is running. Think about it, if your car remote starts and does not engage the engine then you would have everything on in your car and eventually kill your battery because of the draw. The tach should have between 1v to 6v in ac on your dmm. To program it you must turn on your car with the key and then hold the valet button for 5 secs. You will hear a click and it will be fine, im sure you dont need the extra crank, its just probably the tach learning...Good Luck

I'll try to learn the tach again. I don't recall hearing a click from the brain while doing it the first time. Maybe I didn't hold the valet button long enough. I only saw the steady blue light that the manual mentioned when the tach is learned.
