Recently had this installed into an 02 dodge neon.

Seems like the range is only about 100-150ft in bad conditions, maybe 300-500 ft. in clear areas. What is the range? Really bad through buildings. Antenna mounted in the center of the windshield right above the mirror aiming down. There is a factory blue tint the is a strip at the top. Could that be affecting my range.

Is there some sort of range extender that you could buy, I was really hoping to get 500ft through buildings, like parking at wal-mart and doing some shopping.

Thanks

The 12.5X is an AM frequency, (rather than FM for the RSX 3.5).
Thats how your range is suppose to be, you might get a few extra feet by stretching out the wire out all the way (instead of leaving it in a tight bundle).

Cant really buy a range extender, but if you got money, you can buy the responder antenna and the responder remote. Swap out the antenna and program the remote (dont need to swap out the brain).
Downside is, you dont have all the icons the 12.5X LCD has.

If you got more money, replace your system with the SST (different frequency), suppose to be 1mile range. (still missing all the icons the 12.5X has)

Just spoke to DEI tech support. They said you can't swap antennas. Because it's a newer style alarm it doesn't have the capability to do that. He did say that with the older alarms, you were able to do that.

His recommendation was if its recently installed, take it back and put in the 50.5x.

I know for a fact that you can use the RSX 3.5 remote and antenna on the 12.5X brain. (thats what i did to my car)
Not sure if you can swap antenna and remote from the 50.5X SST (people on the forum said you cant)

Anyways, if the installer isnt going to charge you for a new unit (meaning hes going to take back the 12.5X remote and stuff) and charge you the difference for the 50.5X, then do that.
if hes gonna charge you for a new unit and a fee for taking out your old alarm, do it yourself.

Why do you need anything more than 300 ft?
