I'm looking for an alarm as I just installed all my equipment into my 2000 Grand Am. A guy who is MECP? certified can install a Viper 350HV for about $170.

This seems to be lower than the average price, but do you guys have recommendations? I want something low to mid-range...under $200, cheaper if possible.

the viper 350hv is about $150 or so retail, and $170 labor is kinda steep depending if its cash or not. well depends on the quality of work too. i work for a high end shop will all kinds of strict guidlines and stuff.( we work on all the expensive cars other shops wont touch) mecp is a good thing to have there is 3 levels there most likely the basic. mecp doesnt make you good, there can still be hacks that are mecp and read good, if you know what i mean. if your in the san diego area let me know ill take care of you.

i'm a little confused about what your asking? You can get a 350 installed for 170? or is it 170 plus the 350? Because if its installed for 170 wrap it up your done. Its under 200 and I dont really think your going to find anything cheaper and if ya do it sure isn't a DEI. my .02

Yep, cost of install + cost of alarm = 170 total. I'm going to get it done on Friday. Thanks for the help.

Remember, you always get what you pay for. On the other hand you may be getting someone who is starting out and may have gone to a school and is just trying to get better.  Just make sure that as soon as he's done(or before) ask what were his wiring technique and the location of the brain.  Brain should be somewhere not easily accessible and the wiring should be clean not to mention that the connections should be SOLDERED.  Good Luck though.
