Well I am in the middle of an install and thought of something and figured someone here would know.  The previous owner of my truck had about 5 holes (per door panel) for LED lights / indicators / something.  They were just holes when I got it.  Anyway, my viper esp150 puts out a intermittant signal to light a LED.  I was wondering if there was a gizmo out there so I could put in a series of LED's and have the fire off in a knight rider fashion.

Got to do something with the holes.  Any ideas?

No longer available there...but maybe you can find one somewhere.

Thank you.  Next question.  Since LED's do not require that much powe, could I run two LED's of each node so I could have the LED's in sync?

Would anyone have the specs / install sheet on these?

Well I found 2 and bought them.  If I hook them up the same will each series blink in sync with each other?

These would be the DEI 629R.

Thanks

Probably

Well, originally I was going to just hook up another set of LEDs in parallel and have it all run off one unit guaranteeing that they would flash in sync.  But I talked to DEI and they said that one unit does not put out enough power to drive 2 LEDs at the same time; so I bought two hoping they will sync.

I guess I will find out...

Well so much for that idea.  I guess DEI was wrong.  I have two DEI 629R's hooked up and they scan at different speeds - I was hoping to get them in sync.

I would think this is possible.  Anyone have any other ideas?

If you were just looking to flash multiple LEDs in unison rather than in sequential Knight Rider fashion you could add a simple current mirror drive circuit.

Maybe I am not being clear.  I have two sets of five LEDs, one set on each 629R.  Each set flashes in a knight rider (or other) sequence.  I want the two sets o lights to be in sequence; so that the 1st LED of set 1 flashes in sync with the 1st LED of set 2, and so on.

BTW, what is a simple current mirror drive circuit?

Well, DEI was wrong, you can wire two LEDs in parallel and it will fire (bright enough).  So that is the direction I am headed.  We'll see it if lasts.

Ever get the idea that you are posting replies to yourself?

Case closed (for now).

It's a circuit you can use to drive multiple LEDs from one output with matched brightness.

Current mirror circuit
