I'm looking for a remote starter for my car, and I want to be able to start the car when I'm in a store and my car is in the parking lot outside. The Compustar 1W900FMR and Viper 160XVL are both 900 MHZ and have a distance of 3000' for Compustar and 1 mile for Viper.

Does anyone have any thoughts of either of these? The most important things are it will start my car from inside a building about 1000 feet away and that the remote is nice and small. The Compustar remote looks smaller, and the range is less, but it would still work from 1000' away inside a building, right?

So say you're inside Target or some grocery store. If you press start, will the car turn on in the parking lot outside? And about how big is the remote?

I've installed Viper 2-way alarms in the past, and install the Compustar units at the shop I work at now.  I've had good luck with both brands.  I've heard that the Compustar unit has the best actual range.  And many I respect that have used both seem to swear by the Compustar units.  I think they are easier to install, especially if you are using a bypass module and are matching it with the Fortin units.

for me the viper works fine. it is about the size of the jeep grand cherokee remotes. not the ones with the remote built into the key- like a 2002

well the compustar probrably goes just as far as the so-called one mile viper 1way. I doubt it goes one mile being such a small remote and such a small power source. So i say that they are about the same range. SO therefore you should pick which one would be more consistant. Using spread spectrum will have lag. SO go with the compustar 900mhz one channel and very consistant. wordposted_image
