2007 highlander, remote start

I am installing a remote starter in my 07 Highlander and the door locks are troubling me.  I have all the information from 2006 from Wire Magic and some other postings on this website but they are not working in this vehicle.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info but let me be a bit more specific to see if you can help. 

I do not have a factory security system.  I am locking and unlocking with my remote start but when I lock, the security light stops blinking on the dash. 

Also, I do not get auto lock when the RPM's go up, so I believe I need different lock and unlock wires.  Right now I am using white and red in the passenger kick panel (same wires coming off the passenger door switch)

Any suggestions?  Do I need the child safety wire?  Where is that located?  How can I test for that?

OK, hopefully I can answer your questions in order:

1. If you don't have a factory alarm, simply using the white rocker-switch wire (like you already have) is fine for locking.

2. Using the rocker-switch red wire for unlock will work fine MOST of the time. If you do any of the following three things, the red wire will be disabled:

A. Lock the doors from the outside, with the key
B. Lock the doors with the factory remote
C. Lock the doors using the door-panel switch, and then close the door

As long as you don't do any of those things, and you ALWAYS lock the door using the aftermarket remote, you'll be fine the way you are.

Also, using just the red wire for unlock, won't turn on the domelight like the factory remote did, but maybe that isn't important to you.

So, in summary, if the locks are opening/closing OK right now, you don't have to bother connecing the "unlock detection" wire, which is sometimes incorrectly referred to as the "child safety" wire.

3. I've never installed anything with RPM-based automatic doorlocks. But:

A. Are you sure the feature is programmed on?

B. You do have the tach wire connected to the car, correct?

D. Does your unit have any option for autmoatic locks that simply trigger when the ignition is turned on/off, instead of RPM? If so, try that temporarily.......just in case your unit is good, but it isn't happy with the RPM signal from the car.

E. Is the door trigger connected correctly? If the alarm "thinks" that a door is open, it won't automatically lock the doors.

F. Doesn't the Highlander have its own automatic locks, that lock when you take the transmission out of Park? I know that many Toyotas have this, but I can't remember about the Highlander.

i would use a data modle for the doolocks xk01 with toydl firmware works awsome and saves going into door

How did you figure out the lock/unlk wire at the rocker switch?

if this method works, can anyone apply it to any of the #1070-based door locks.
