Hello security experts! I recently purchased a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, and along with the vehicle came a remote control marked "KARR" on the front and has its FCC ID: "ELVAT5H" on the back. I took a quick look under the dash for the alarm unit, but did not see anything obvious. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Can someone describe for me, or better yet, send me a picture of a typical Karr system for this vehicle, and tell me where I might find it? It's entirely possible that it was removed already, but I'm not sure why I would get the remote with the car if the alarm was gone. The remote key fob lights up when the key is pressed, but nothing happens on the vehicle.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

If the keyfobs aren't working, then the brain most likely is out of the vehicle.

Did you get a set of OEM/Factory Chevy keyfobs for doorlocks?

I would have gotten an OEM remote, but the dealer lost them shortly after taking the vehicle on trade and had to replace with new when selling to me. Not a bad deal for me, but I'm wondering what to do with this KARR thing, and if the brains might still be hanging around. This KARR key fob was attached to one of two keys to the vehicle. If it's still in there, is it worth keeping, or just forget it? I don't really like electronic "growths" on my vehicle if it's not serving a purpose. Do you know what these things look like, and where it might be found?

I wouldn't bother with it.  Unfortunately, I've never seen an actual unit and a brief search of the internet suggests that this unit is long since discontinued, no pics available.

oh, and if you were to drop the lower driver's side dash board (i.e. under the steering column) you might find a black box (about 6" x 3" x 8" .. very approximate) that is either zip tied or affixed somehow to OEM parts with several wire harnesses (white) plugged into it.  I really doubt it'll still be in there.  There usually is also an aftermarket antenna on the windshield and if this is gone, it's another suggestion that the karr stuff has been ripped out.

I agree with you...I'm not going to mess with it. Not worth the time, especially since the new factory key fob seems to work just fine.
As you've said, the Karr unit has probably been discontinued. I'll take one last look for something like you have described, and if it's there, I'll get a closer look. If not, then I'm sure that it was removed at some point, which is also just fine with me.

Thanks for your help!
T.
