1989 ford probe with single wire door locks..(4.7k ohm to unlock) (regular 12v to lock)

I installed an alarm a while a back and got everything to work except the unlock,so I ordered the dlr-u interface that has variable resisors built it..How do I set this up to work? I want my doors to unlock NOW,lol..

Use a451 relay  module it's cheaper, wire the resister in  series circuit with either lock or unlock (whichever side needs it) join to other lock wire then to the vehicle lock wire. Job done.

Thanks for the response.

I looked at one of those, but the dlr-u I found ended up being cheaper after shipping and all that since the seller offered free shipping and the 451 module was $5 + $6 shipping. and plus it has the variable resistor built in so why not,right? I just need to know how to set it up,(it hasnt arrived yet).

Also I currently have (2) 30 amp relays in there with a 4.7k ohm resistor on the unlock relay to the door wire,,however it wont unlock,I've tried mulitple resistors from the radioshack pack and none worked,I don't know if all are bad or what's going on...And I know the relay was hooked up right because when I tried it without the resistor inline,it locked the doors since it was feeding the 12volt signal.

try to post the positions on the relay to see what is causing the failure.  What I would recommend is to connect your red lead to that wire and connect 12v to the black wire(using dmm switch to ohms) and pulse your lock and see what ohms reading your getting.  If its not 4.7k ohms then thats the reason why its not working. Remember that you cannot test resistance on a live wire which means that you must disconnect the unlock wire you connected to the lock/unlock wire fo the vehicle.

It read 4700 ohms,I dont know what the problem is..It HAS to be the resistors themselves,however 10 bad resistors in a row from radioshack?

But that doesnt matter anymore because I already ordered the dlr-u,I just want to know how to set it up and adjust so it sends the 4700 ohm signal...Or is it automatic adjusting? I've never used one of these things.

If it does then try another test.  Cut the ford wire and with a meter connect your black lead to power and the red to the wire that was cut and press the unlock button of your vehicle.  Change meter to ohms settings and look at the reading.  It might not be 4.7k like the wiring instructions mentioned.  It may be another read in which it would use a different resistor.

have you picked up on the correct wire, in UK cars it was (if I remember) a GREEN/ something with silver dots, quite thick and all we did was the following:- if your alarm has only 2 lock outputs use like this:- lock  output to 85, 12v+ to 86, ground (fom a good source)  to 87, 30 joined to single ,lockwire. Unlock is exactly the same, but join a 1/4 watt resistor 4.7K in series from 30 then join to single wire. If you have 6 wires on alarm lock outputs,  disregard those marked NC (=87a),join normally open to a good ground, put your resistor to wire marked lock common, join ths to unlock common then to vehicle wire.Check the value of your resistor.

Do any of the above and that's it.  It always worked, in fact some European VW's M/Benz and BMW used a similar system. Let's stop running around like a headless chicken!

Correction RUN 12V+ to  87 NOT ground, also on 6 wires from alarm, NO is output, commons should go to 12V+. Sorry I've done 300miles today tracking down(every pun intended) faulty tracking units.

I got this dlr-u hooked up,but dont know how to hook up the multi meter to adjust it..

The unit has screws on it to adjust the variable resistor inside from 0-20,000 ohms,,But how do i hook up the mutlimeter to see what the adjust screw is at? I dont just want to hit unlock and adjust ,that will take years lol.

also,note im not a professional so please explain it to me in english,thanks
