have you leaned the tach? (the button on the side) start car let reach normal idle then press button lights will flash and tach is learned.

How did you get past the clutch?

When you try to R/S, and it fails.....are you going thru the safty sequence?

i tap clutch wires together so it can start without the clutch down, and what do u mean safty sequence, like the cars in running after the key has been removed and when the door is closed then it shuts down because it does that with the e-brake up

You may have the yellow and yellow/black starter kill wires backwards.

When you exit the car it should shut off, lock the doors and arm itself. Why would it lock itself again after remote starting?

Well what did you use for your transponder? Does the car turn off and one 3 times? Pay attention to your dash board lights. When it first starts and then turns off pay attention to the green key light. You needs a honda bypass module. 98 should have a transponder.

The Civic didn't get a transponder key until 2001.
