viper 5900 problems

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install a Viper 5900 remote start. I've installed the unit, and everything seems to be working, except that the unit will not respond to the Remote Start command.

Lock/Unlock, and all the Aux outputs work, but if I press the Start button on the remote, or use the Activation input nothing happens (I know I have to press it twice)

If I go into diagnostics menu, it reports (6), which means either brake input or neutral safety switch. Both of which I've tested and both are grounded at the moment (for testing only).

The car is a Chevy Cobalt, which uses a bypass module to actually start the car, so I do not need to connect the starter wires from the Relay Module. Theoretically I don't need to connect the Accessory or the Ignition wires either.

I do not think the problem is with the wiring (unless Im missing something stupid, but maybe there is something I need to program before the unit will respond to the Start command?) Right now it's like I'm not even pressing the button at all. Usually the remote beeps at me if it is not communicating, but pressing the Start button does absolutely nothing.

If you have any ideas, please let me know.

You are correct that you do not need to hook up the starter wire, however you will need to hook up the ignition and accessory wires. The bypass module only gets you around the immobilizer, it does not actually start the car for you. Also make sure that the hood pin is not grounded out, if it is the remote will do nothing.

make sure the small BLACK/ grey is grounded, and there is no ground on the small grey wire and no 12V on the small brown.

Actually, the bypass module DOES star the car for me. It interfaces to the ignition and has two wires coming out of it. GWR and Start. If I ground the GWR wire, accessory and ignition wires turn on. Then if I connect the start wire to 12V, the car fires right up :)

Anyways, I was under the impression the hood switch should be grounded for operation (doh!) I will try it tomorrow and report back.

i believe that the ign(green@ign harness) will have to be powered up as well. use your starters ign output to go to the green, and tap the input from the xk06 into the ign

You are right that the xk06 does accessory for you however you still need ignition like swerks said. It has been a while since I have done one of these cars but I list the ignition as yellow in the ignition harness but as always test before hooking up.
